Drama Digest

Sakimori Kagami plays Arch Earth Online, a virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game. He’s a seasoned player with the name and appearance of an ancient bearded wizard from a ring-related novel.  As a last resort to spend expired cash, he buys an appearance change item and gets the notion of picking what he would want to look like if his character was ever a girl.  The game should have been halted if Kagami had fallen asleep, but she wakes up still online and thinks the game has become more realistic.

The Feel Good Part

It’s a power fantasy with a lot of charming stuff going on. And, as with volume 1, there are a few cliches that I despise, even though they do not dominate the plot: the adult lady fascinated with the adorable girl, the fascination with panties in the side story, and cute girls like sweet things. I’m also not sure how I feel about the arc’s conclusion. It appears to have been rotated, albeit more by mistake than on intent, and a few key concerns remain.

The Disappointing Factor

When Mira/Danblf leads a party into a dungeon, she gets to show off her skills (summoning and martial arts; it’s not that type of book). There’s a lot of OP protagonist stuff going on here, but I believe it’s handled effectively. Yes, she could complete the dungeon on her own, but it wasn’t a particularly difficult one. It’s like a level 30 D&D wizard wielding epic spells taking on a dungeon designed for level 10-12 players. When she subsequently faces a more severe threat, she knows she’ll have to go all out to win, and the threat appears to be true.

In Depth Analysis

Daniel has been sent on a quest to find the nine sages, disguised as a girl and claiming to be Danblf’s disciple Mira. But when she arrives at her first destination, she discovers a terrifying surprise–a zombie-infested city! Mira takes her increasing team into the depths of a mazelike ancient temple for an all-out attack, deducing that one of the sages–the necromancer Soul Howl–must be close!

Star Power

The finale was a touch sluggish, but overall, this was a fun film to see.

Overall Opinion

Despite the comfort obtained from teaming up with two OP buddies, everything is not well in the kingdom they created when this was only a game. They are surrounded by enemies, and a scheme to destroy the country has been devised.

Despite the protagonist’s invaluable assistance, the kingdom is still on the verge of extinction. More firepower is still required! The race is on to locate and recruit the remaining OP buddies distributed over the globe, all while maintaining masculine pride while being spotted as a young female.
