Drama digest:

The series is about the supernatural battle of a new generation. This battle is fought between the evil powers of an unknown world and the young protagonist of the series.

The feel-good factor:

The animation is good. The side characters are super good too.  Every character has a distinguished personality which seems vivid. The best part was the superpower given to Akira. It provides physical fights a psychological edge, which is interesting.

The disappointing factor:

The storyline is quite predictable. Another disappointing and secretive point that the show never clears was Akira, never even trying to find any information about this whole new dimension he’s been dragged into. He doesn’t question anything, even though it’s a question of life and death. The battles are supposed to be deep but aren’t as deep as the show tried to portray. All those who enter this new world gain random superpowers at random times, which is confusing.

In-depth analysis:

The protagonist, Akira Shiroyanagi, is a usual second-year high school student. He loves playing video games and loves eating Japanese sweets called Konpeito. One fine day, while returning home from school, he is dragged into a battlefield out of nowhere by a mysterious girl named ‘Mion.’ This happens because this girl, Mion kills other people like Akira and resurrects them in some other dimension where all of them gain certain superpowers. These people have to use these powers to get through many trials. Each character is given one particular goal to fulfill. Unlike the other people, Akira’s superpower is anything his opponent believes he has. This gives him an edge over the others because his fight becomes more of a psychological game rather than a physical one. Akira acts like a grown-up man who is devoid of emotions, when he is just a 16-year-old boy. Throughout the series, various enemies keep showing up whom Akira has to defeat. Akira keeps suffering the entire series but does not try to find out the real reason of why he was been chosen to be a part of these games.

Star power:

A character that seemed very cute is a girl named Yuri, who’s Akira’s counterpart. She’s adorable, lovable, and had great fighting skills. She helps Akira throughout the show.

Overall opinion:

If someone loves to watch action-based predictable series’, then this can be one for them. The series is definitely much disappointing as compared to its novel, but anyone who likes the novel can give it a try at their own risk.
