Anime Review: Darwin’s Game

Anime Digest

A classmate invites Kaname Sudou, a high school student, to play Darwin’s Game, a smartphone game he has never heard of. However, as soon as Kaname opens the app, a green snake appears on his phone screen and bites him in the neck, knocking him unconscious. He is told by the school to take the rest of the day off after waking up in the infirmary with no evidence of a snake bite. Despite being perplexed by what has occurred, he dismisses the bizarre event as a hallucination and returns home on the train.

The Feel-Good Part

Unless the author devises a mechanism for them to be injured, their talents make them nearly invincible. Keep in mind that in each clan, there are dozens of fighters with varying talents. It’s impossible to say how powerful they are or even what their power is. This implies that anyone can learn a new talent at any time. Randomness is thrilling, but it’s impossible to enjoy a clusterfuck when you have no idea what’s happening.

The Disappointing Factor

For the next story arc, things don’t get much better. The next story arc is entirely focused on everyone obtaining these rings, which collect points and eventually lead them out of the game. But, in the end, the points were irrelevant. The game was won by our main character by some code trickery that was never explained.

Star Power

The mixed bag comes into play when it comes to the personalities. Apart from having a few clichés linked with them, some of the cast members are interesting, while others are not. With the way the tale has evolved, you also get the impression that any prospective new fascinating character may be murdered off as if they were nothing. This makes 100x interesting.

Overall Opinion

The animation and art style are both outstanding in general. It’s not at all bad, which is respectable for a television show. To begin with, that’s an added benefit. The presentation’s music and sound effects are quite nice to listen to.
