In-Depth Analysis

After being inactive for almost seven years, the show ‘Channel: Rookie King’ featured an upcoming boy band UNVS as its season 3. The show began in 2012 with the idol group Boys Republic. In 2013 it featured BTS as ‘Rookie King: Channel BTS’. But it soon stopped continuing until recently.

It captures the essential factors needed to become a K-pop band. Trained rookie idols who had their first debut show their abilities and highlight group features, among many things. They do everything to picture a rough idea of their concept and styles, from the introduction to highlighting their singing and dancing skills. They play several games to spice up the show and enjoy their on-screen appearance with little things. However, being a rookie band, they often make tiny blunders that slip out their newness in the K-pop industry. Through ways ranging from shooting bottles to cooking and washing dishes, it portrays their characteristics and fact checks them, as they mentioned earlier. They channelise their inner competitive self through each round clarifying their position as an upcoming boy band.

The missions begin with their introduction. It follows fact-checking their profiles. Their ability to enhance the visuality of the group with the cuteness test follows. In the next mission, they transform into popular idols and continue to play different games in their given attire. Pranks and role-playing also become a part of their missions.

These enable them to face situations that will become necessary and common to them as they progress into the K-pop arena. Each mission carries a rough idea of relevant notions that’ll become significant to their career in future. It speaks of their strength and weakness, records their initial reactions and draws upon their outlook as an individual. The vivid portrayal of newbies starting is evident throughout the show. Getting into fights among themselves, mistaking interviews as part of the show and messing up situations subtly portrays their unfamiliarity. But it also highlights their synchronous selves amidst these. Their skills and ways of slowly getting familiar with things are some of the notions that stick around.
