Drama Digest

Oppa’s Cuisine is a cooking show unlike any other. In every 3 episodes, our characters, the Butler and Matthew Ho, must gather 4 oppas to present a feast for a wide range of guests including the beautiful Dodo Cheng and Ivana Wang. In the first round, the oppas need to cook delicious food with ingredients designated to them based on Dodo Cheng’s taste. In the second round, they must respond to different situational questions and match their taste for baked goods. They will accordingly be scored points with their unique tricks. After these rounds, the oppa with the lowest score will be eliminated and the remaining three will continue to the next round where they must choose their ingredients to create a specialty dish to co-act and win the fire. What will our oppas do? What do the judges have up their sleeves? And who will buckle under the pressure and falter? Watch this sizzling hot, high-stakes show to find out who will continue to the last round and win it all.

The Feel-Good Part

This drama brings the heat. It is intense and the stakes are high. However, through all that intensity, not only do we get great TV, but we also get some stellar dishes that you wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else. The contestants showcase tremendous drive and skill and can push out some great dishes every time. The setting of this is also spectacular. It is so slick, and uber luxurious which matches the food that is produced. There are moments in the show that makes for excellent TV and the addition of the host also adds to the show’s charm. All the hosts and mentors in the show do a great job at not only breaking the tension but also being able to stand on their own and deliver some great moments no matter what. Overall, what makes this show so great is its sense of luxury, excellence, and skill, which is incomparable to any other show or cooking competition.

The Disappointing Factor

If you are not a fan of high-stakes competition, then this show is not for you. Because this show thrives on a super luxurious image, instances, where the contestants fall short, are amplified to a maximum and it gets pretty hard to watch. There is a level of glass and sheen to this show that may not be enjoyed by most audiences. However, that is not a bad thing, as the output of each episode exceeds every expectation in terms of set design, drama, and people involved.

In-Depth Analysis

Oppa’s Kitchen is a luxurious show. It is also a very intense and anxiety-inducing show. In moments where it leans more into the high stakes, it does get a bit too much to watch. But overall, it does showcase great culinary craftsmanship and food unlike anything seen on TV before.
