Movie Digest

Park Jae min, our main character lost his father in a hacker attack and has since then used this incident as his motivation to enrol in computer science. The police were stuck on the case and has since then not made any progress on who the hacker might be. However, as Jae Min crosses paths with two of his peers one of whom informs him of a scam surrounding a cryptocurrency scheme that many innocent people could fall for. Jae Min agrees to do the work while he is also trying to unearth the identity of the hacker who caused the death of his father.

The Feel Good Part

The plot of this movie is based on hacking and cybersecurity (or lack thereof). However, there is also a subplot that focuses on the romantic relationship of our main character Jae Min with his school friend Jo Hee. The relationship between these two is very wholesome at the best. We also get to understand why Jae Min religiously makes use of his hacking skills to unearth schemers. He hacks company websites and reports illegal things he witnessed to the police anonymously. Herein we get to see the convictions of his character. We also further understand why he is like that upon knowing the tragedy behind his father’s demise. The characters are very likable which is a plus point.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie had a good premise at its start, like the boy goes through the tragic demise of his father, and decides to bring down schemers and fraudulent hackers. One can develop n number of scripts just from this premise but for some reason, the makers here thought they should also add a little romance, which by the way is not wrong at all its just sometimes confusing as to whether we are watching a movie that details cyber attack or a romcom. They also make use of slapstick comedy which falls flat most of the time. The introduction of this film definitely gives ocean’s eleven vibes and I am all for thriller movies like that. however, this movie definitely underuses the potential in its plotline and keeps confusing the viewers more and more. The dialogues are also poorly written and the cast seems to have not been prepared for their roles at all.

In-Depth Analysis

The background score of this movie seems to be inspired by elevator music or music from the YouTube videos with no voiceover. Not surprising really but here we are. The plot at some points seems to be overly focused on the romantic pursuits of the main character and Jo Hee. This confuses the viewers along with the frequent flashbacks that have no meaning whatsoever, and extreme focus on scenes that feels like a waste of time. There is a list of all things wrong with this movie too difficult to even sum up. The scriptwriting was very poor, that coupled with our main cast who are not familiar with the craft of acting is painful to watch, to say the least. Jae Min’s character is very likable, his convictions are understandable. Out of all the cast the main character is comparatively better written. Jo hee and his relationship seems to be marketed towards the crowd just coming out of puberty. The movie would have been good if the editor had a single clue on how to do his job properly. Thankfully despite straying into the romance realm in the midst of a thriller cybersecurity plot, the makers spared us the drama and kept everything very light hearted.

Star Power

The two main casts were originally singers who transitioned into the film industry and that is very visible in their acting chops portrayed. Nayoung plays the role of Jo Hee, while Kwon Hyunbin plays the role of Jae Min in this movie. We also have in the movie Lee Soo Woong, who was the prospective member of the boyband BTS.

Overall Opinion

This movie would appeal to the younger generation that feeds on romance, particularly the corny kind. The comedy in this movie Is slapstick comedy that fails to make its mark. It has a very low rewatch value in my opinion. If you are fond of thriller movies and those that deal with cybersecurity, this movie would not do anything for you. However, go for it if you feel the comedy and romance suits your style although that is the subplot of the entire story. The friendgroup tackling black market hackers posing as a university club was an interesting part.
