Movie Digest

Chun-Hee’s parents die right after the IMF crisis. Now she is left alone and forced to live with her uncle and aunt in her mother’s childhood home. She is now confined to an attic. She makes money by peeling garlic and saves some money for her hyperhidrosis.

She meets an equally shy person and thinks that she finally found the person who would love her back. But suddenly, one day, she gets struck by lightning. From that day she can see her teenage self coming in and out of the house. But this gives her a chance to deal with her mental-traumas.

The Feel-Good Part

The movie talks about some real mental health issues and how even a small thing can affect your mental- health for your whole life. Mental health is a major issue in today’s world and it needs to be brought into the spotlight. This movie does that beautifully with realism.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie is not very engaging. There are parts where you don’t understand what is happening or why is it happening. The movie is filled with dry humor but all of this gets compensated with the excellent movie.

 In-Depth Analysis

The story follows the life of a young woman, Chun-Hee, who lives with her uncle, aunt, and cousin, who are very unwelcoming. She has a nervous condition in which she sweats a lot, and the family she lives with doesn’t make it easy. They always felt burdened for taking her in and always made her feel unwanted. These things hurt her teenage years and had a toll on her for a lifetime.

The lack of melodrama helped the movie to be more realistic even though it is a bit fantasy. The flashbacks assisted in knowing that she was not so affected by the criticism earlier in her teenage years but as she grew up things, started changing and disturbing her.

Star Power

Kang Jin-ah gave an excellent performance. She seems natural and the way she delivered the role of Chun-Hee is phenomenal. Park Hye-Jin carried the role of teenage Chun-Hee with excellent grace and she is a magnificent actress.

Overall Opinion

The movie is outstanding. It is a story of self-acceptance and how to overcome mental health issues. The movie is very well executed and worth giving a try.
