Movie Digest

Searching For William / À la Recherche de William / 윌리엄을 찾아서 is a collaborative production of South Korea and France. Under the Direction of Kim Saet Byul, the film is unique in its plot, including the director as a Korean, and the setting is Parisian. It hit the theaters on 12th July 2021, with a running time of thirty-nine minutes.

The Feel-Good Part

Besides the dramatic plotline of Searching for William, the short watchable time also provokes the audience to give it a go. It lasts only thirty-nine minutes. The tragedy that follows when Uliana finds her first William to be already engaged in a relationship is worth entertaining us. The romanticized setting of the city, Paris, perfectly fits the mission. It is available in three languages, French, Russian, and English.

The Disappointing Factor

Although the short film delivers its desired crowd, it fails to have a rewatchable value. It is perfect for a lonely evening but does not leave an impact on the viewers’ life. The plot starts on the sturdy side but ends with a weaker touch.

In-Depth Analysis

In thirty-nine minutes, we find a light-hearted and eye-catching narrative where a woman named Uliana wants a person called William for her future script. As a Russian screenwriter, she wishes to write about being head over heels in love with William. However, the initial William she meets already seems to be in a relationship. Without further disheartening herself, she quickly resolves to find another muse for her inspiration. What further ensues is romance, comedy, melodrama, and lots of drama.

Star Power

It took a while to select the potential candidates for the short film. The cast includes Leonard Ballesteros as Rafael, Elena Blokhina as Masha, Matisse Bonzon as Tom, Quentin Branchet as William 3, Hayk Hambartsum as William 1, Anouar Kardellas as William 2, Uliana Leonova as Uliana, and Radoslav Majerik as Sasha.

Overall Opinion

Written, directed, and produced by Kim Saet Byul, Searching for William became selected at renowned platforms, namely the 25th Bifan, 18th Simfest, and 18th Abuja International Film Festival. And at the 7th Shanghai Short Film Festival, the film won the award for Best Director. You should definitely get hold of this movie, seeing its critically acclaimed performance. It is a gripping story of finding a new lover.
