The Adventure of a Hard Drive / A Strange Adventure To Find a Lost External Hard Drive (잃어버린 외장하드를 찾는 이상한 모험) is a ten-minute South Korean short film. It came out to the general public on 12th July 2021. The film received a chance to be featured at the 46th Seoul Independent Film Festival. The director, Baek Seung-Hwa, oversaw the direction of other movies such as Legacy (2021) and Wangsimni Kim Jong-Bun (2021).
The Feel-Good Part
As an independent movie, it stands as a motivation for aspiring young directors to make a movie of their own. Since it stretches over ten minutes, it is perfect for streaming during a bus/metro ride. On a mission to find the lost hard drive in her house, Mi-Sook finds unexpected things while searching. The drama and comedy evoked keep us laughing throughout.
The Disappointing Factor
The huge shortcoming of The Adventure of a Hard Drive is the lack of a significant impact on the viewers. Although it won a lot of nominations, it does not suit the general public style of the movie. Therefore, it lacks the flavor to be a likable choice.
In-Depth Analysis
In her mid-twenties, Mi-Sook has discontinued her profession as a filmmaker. Since she lost the hard drive that contained a valuable movie by Director Lee, she goes on a quest to find it before time runs out. She searches under a sofa for the object. And it pulls her into an alternate dimension that defies the rules of her current reality. There she finds a cat and several other lost materials. The cat replies with an unexpected answer when asked if it had seen the hard drive – that Mi-Sook is not looking for a hard drive but has lost confidence in her passion.
Star Power
In this short film, the cast does its ideal job depicting the feelings of the movie characters. It involves Oh Kyung-Wha as Yeo Mi-Sook, Eunsoo Kwon as Director Lee, and Soon Ah-Nam as Cat Dali Station. We see the three actors in other productions such as Miracle (2020), Plant Life (2020), Happy Happy Divorce Party (2021), and Legacy (2021), respectively.
Overall Opinion
It is fitting to watch it as any other youtube video and get insight into the movie-making industry. An indie story of this kind is unique in its plot and can be a good pass-time for a day.
