The Feel-Good Part

The chemistry between the characters is the core strength of this film, in less than nine minutes, the anatomy of first love is expressed articulately. Every act and action of the main leads adds some intrigue to the story and help the audience quickly understand why the characters gravitate towards each other. Apart from this, the dialogue between the characters is limited while conveying emotions visually, which is extremely impressive for a short film since the runtime is limited. The characters are relatable, and hence instantly relatable, which helps viewers to have some amount of emotional investment in the plot and hence, makes them care about the film. Additionally, the cinematography is stunning, and the vibrant colors and landscape shots are delightful, adding to the feel-good aspect of the story of first love. The musical elements of the film also add to the sentiment of joy and go very well with the other aspects of the film.

The Disappointing Factor

The plot of miscommunication is very short-lived; it doesn’t give time for tension to build, which may decrease the emotional impact the film has at the end. The resolution to the conflict almost feels too easy and a little incomplete. Since it’s a short feature, there is are time-based limitations on what can be done to develop the characters.

In-Depth Analysis

Please Tell Me So has lots of potential to be more than a short film; the audience seems to really love it and hence, wants to see more of these characters. The film embodies the feeling of first love with its light and easy-going nature. The fear of rejection and the uncertainty in relationships are well expressed through well-written dialogue. The film is joyous at its core and avoids all the angst that BL romances usually have while still having conflict and growth as parts of the plot, which is always a welcome change within the genre.

Star Power

The performances were incredible, and the jealousy involved in the character dynamics and the awkwardness present among the protagonists were portrayed realistically, which made the short film engaging and well-executed.
