At the funeral of Hwa Ja’s husband, Mayor Choo and his party begin to puke and collapse after drinking. Mayor Choo survives, but some of his associates do not. The evidence points to Hwa Ja as the culprit. However, she has Alzheimer’s illness. Hwa Ja’s daughter, Jung-In, is a lawyer in a big firm in Seoul. Jung-In sees her mother on TV and returns home. Jung-In decides to pursue the case. She has a feeling the truth is buried in the case and is sure that her mother is innocent.

The Feel-Good Part

The film gives you suspense from the very beginning till the end. The film was able to tie everything together and provide a satisfying twist.

The Disappointing Factor

The film might seem longer than it is. There is nothing really to nitpick.

In-Depth Analysis

Innocence is a true crime story following lawyer Ahn Jung-In as she defends her mother on trial for murder. It gives off a mysterious air beginning, and you begin to wonder how the plot will unfold. And it is this capacity to keep you guessing that keeps you interested and invested in the film. Not only that, but it featured some fantastic suspense moments as well. The build-up was impressive, thanks to the film’s numerous layers of mystery and suspense, also outstanding acting performances. It is a well-made courtroom drama film with many twists and turns. This film keeps you engaged by giving you the sensation that you are part of live evidence discovery and that the case may go either way. The truth always feels like a slowly unfolding puzzle box because there is just enough left in the dark. The cinematography did a brilliant job of elevating these moods and emotions throughout the film.

Star Power

The main actors, Shin Hye-Sun (Jung-In), Bae Jong-Ok (Hwa Ja), and Heo Joon-Ho (Mayor Choo), were superb in depicting their characters. Their acting performances were able to capture your attention from the start.

Overall Opinion

If you enjoy crime and mystery-filled films, do highly recommend this Korean film.
