Movie Digest

Saki, Mei and Kaho are members of a budding idol group called Wish. They are set to appear in the sequel of Toei’s widely successful film, Yugami. Toei Movie Studios is a famous location to shoot films and dramas. However, things are not as they seem, since the studio has many untold secrets that are hidden from the girls.

The Feel-Good Part

The studios that have made the film is Toei Studios itself, which is a pretty fun concept to play with as it playing with the image of an existing region. The film is short, which makes it easy to watch. The short duration of the film keeps the plot tight and doesn’t overstay its welcome by dragging with unnecessary subplots. The film is quite aware of the fact that it isn’t doing something new, films like these already exist, which is refreshing to witness as it doesn’t present the story as a novel concept. The movie only aims to entertain and provide the audience with nothing but fun. Some of the blood and gore scenes are executed well, as it sets the mood as well as looks realistic. The film is quite fast-paced and engaging, which will keep the viewers hooked to the very end as there is never a single dull moment in terms of action.

The Disappointing Factor

The story is pretty cliché and doesn’t stray away from the common plot-points of this genre, which makes it predictable and may make it boring to watch. The film doesn’t take itself seriously, which is why it ends up being underwhelming. All of it seems low effort and uninspired as it doesn’t attempt to do more than provide a fast-paced film with some amount of action. They don’t try to deepen the premise and engage the audience in meaningful heartfelt moments. The movie often creates a certain atmosphere to provide an immersive experience for the viewer but the creators don’t let that last for long as they change the setting very quickly, which is both jarring and disappointing.

In-Depth Analysis

This film doesn’t aim to do much more than entertain. There is very little substance going on apart from the action, which is not necessarily a bad thing but it can get disappointing for those with high expectations. It would have been better if the run-time was longer as it would give the audience time to engage with the characters as well as provide some depth to the premise. The setting and the tone should have remained constant throughout the film as it would have been a more immersive viewing experience that way.

Star Power

All the performances were great. The cast did their best to make the film an engaging experience for the viewers.

Overall Opinion

This is a great way to spend your time if you’re looking for something short and fun to watch. Those who like horro and comedy films would particularly enjoy this one.
