Movie Digest

The film is about a Fukuura Koharu who leads an ordinary life. Her life is neither happy nor sad. She works at the city hall. She experiences a series of unfortunate events and her life completely changes overnight. Her grandfather collapses, her father gets arrested for drunk driving and even her house burns down. She catches her boyfriend cheating on her with her colleague. Her life has turned upside down and suddenly become miserable. Then she meets Doctor Daigo who lives with his 8-year-old. He is raising her daughter all by himself. Her life completely changes when she meets him.

The Feel Good Part

Doctor Daigo acts like Prince Charming. He is wealthy and helps Kharu and her family. He is handsome and wealthy and when he proposes to Koharu she accepts the proposal. The couple elopes after only a month of being together.Korahu wants to be an ideal mother and due to her past and the initial bonding between a stepmother, Koharu and her daughter Hiraki is heartwarming. The story is backed up by many classical music which creates a suspenseful atmosphere and helps maintain tension in the air.

The Disappointing Factor

Even when the storyline creates suspense and tension they appear stagnant as the characters do not build on each other and take the plot further. The film remains shallow and is not able to deliver the message it intends to. The characters are unable to do justice to the finale. The themes of motherhood and family remain unstructured till the end.

In-Depth Analysis

The Cindrella Addictions fails to deliver the expectations. It is the story of a poor girl whose life changes completely when she marries Doctor Diago. The foreshadowing technique ends up falling flat. Hikari’s sinister actions have no clear reasoning. The intent behind them is left unclear. The story displays a mother’s duty towards her children but the intention behind the actions of Koharu is barely understandable. Koharu loses her sense of identity in taking care of Hikari. Koharu’s mother walked out on the family when she was young and she does not want to repeat the same but this theme gets repetitive. The viewers are left with a lot of questions unanswered. Some parts of the film have been rushed while some have been unnecessarily repeated. The storyline is not constructed well enough and leads the viewers in different directions. The film fails to deliver the thought-provoking message about the importance of the role played by parents in a child’s life and that people can take up extreme measures to protect their families especially when they are tied to their conception of happiness. The film ends up failing to create any worthwhile impact on the viewers the same way the protagonist fails to remain good.

Star Power

Kei-Tanaka and Tao-chan co-starred four times and they acted as a couple in three. It definitely helped grabbed the attention of their fans.

Overall Opinion

The film is created to be a typical Cinderella story with a twist of eeriness to it. It was intended to shock the audience but rather delivers an unstructured plot.
