Movie Digest

Nobita found an old stuffed bear gifted to him by his grandmother, which causes him to reminisce his time with her. He then decides to go back in time to meet her. Upon meeting, his grandmother expresses her desire to meet his future bride. Doraemon and Nobita make it their goal to help his grandma watch the wedding only to find out that Nobita has fled the scene. His friends look for him at the venue while Shizuka waits for him with confidence down the aisle. While Nobita and Doraemon try their best to fulfil all of grandma’s wishes, will Nobita be able to be a good husband to Shizuka and go through with the wedding?

The Feel-Good Part

The film has a lot of heart at the centre of it. For people who grew up with the animated series, there is a very strong nostalgia factor to the film as the once young characters have gone in different directions as adults but remain together in a group. The animation style is what stands out the most as it is very different from the original series and older films. The three dimensional visuals are stunning and adds so much to the story of the movie. The consistency of the playfulness and adventure in this film carried forward from its predecessors must be commended. The joyous and light-hearted film has its emotional moments that come through really strong, which is nice to see as it gives the audience a variety of experiences within a short time span. Nobita’s transition from childhood to adulthood is done almost seamlessly in a way that is endearing and maintains his character, yet gives him the space to grow.

The Disappointing Factor

The film comes across as unfocused at times as the plot-point of the grandma is forgotten to give more time to the wedding, which is disappointing as the motive of the film is lost. Nobita’s character has entered adulthood but not much has changed, which can come off as frustrating for certain viewers as they may feel like his growth as a character is stinted. There also seems to be something missing throughout the film, which feels like a void and may leave viewers feeling like there was potential to do more with the sequel.

In-Depth Analysis

The emotional scenes land very well because the characters are easy to root for. Since the first part of this drama was critically acclaimed, the expectations for this show were high. The show did deliver on most occasions, making it a strong successor. Fans of the first part are definitely in for a treat with this one as Part 2 retains all the strengths of the predecessor.

Star Power

All the performances were great. The actors tapped into the nostalgic element of the film quite well. The voice actor playing Doraemon is the one of the highlights of the film

Overall Opinion

While the film is not perfect, it does execute the story for the most part. Fans of the anime series will feel heavy nostalgia and lots of emotions while watching this, so it is definitely worth a shot.
