Movie Digest

The blooming of cherry blossoms represents hope and joy in life. It is an event that is all about happiness and for Japanese culture, it is a signifies the fleeting nature of life.

This theme is the foundation of the movie and follows the journey of high school girl Saki. During the journey, she meets a young man and also gets to know her mentor’s wife, who is physically challenged.

Just like the cherry blossoms, her life changes from being sad to being happy just like the blooming of the cherry.

The Feel-Good Part

Beautiful visuals and touching performances

The Disappointing Factor

Better editing as some of the scenes were not required.

In-Depth Analysis

Saki is a high school girl who works in a Japanese tea room run by Keizo who is also her mentor. Her life just like the cherry blossoms she loves represents the fleeting nature of life.

On one hand, she has to face the challenges of a high school girl and on the other hand she finds happiness in the friendship of a young man. During the journey, she also realizes the power of love when she meets Keizo’s wife, who is physically challenged yet Keizo’s does not give up on her.

The representation of a barren cherry tree through the movie is symbolic of her journey.

Star Power

Both Iwamoto Renko and Takarada Akira are reprise their roles as Saki and Keizo well.

Overall Opinion

Poignant movie and a must watch. But without the sub-titles, it is tad difficult to understand.
