Movie Digest

The year is 2027, and the town of Beresk is located in eastern Russia. The community has been infested by indigenous bacteria that were exposed to meltwater from neighboring mountains as a result of global warming. Due to this, an international team of scientists has arrived at the scenario in secret to secure the town.

The Feel-Good Part

This film is a Chinese genre about a viral outbreak in a town, which is both relatable and entertaining given the current pandemic crisis.

The Disappointing Factor

or:

However, Yang’s script isn’t up to the task of creating a compelling visual spectacle in such a little space: the half-dozen or so characters aren’t very intriguing, and the same chaotic structure that affected the first half of the film remains in the second.

Zhao Liangying’s composition is adequate but then again, the visual style is intrusive. The music is barely used, with a Central Asian lament in the middle and some traditional upbeat material towards the end.

The no-name cast gives mediocre performances, with He Yang standing out as a restaurateur with a domineering attitude and a huge pistol, and Yan Wenjun merely okay as the charming nursing heroine.

In-Depth Analysis

The town has been plagued by an ancient bacteria that was produced in the meltwater from neighboring mountains as a result of global warming. An international team of scientists has arrived in secret to secure the town. Su Ping (Yan Wenjun), a nurse, comes to the region, unaware of the risk, to spend time with her husband Lin Dong (Xu Shaoze), who works there. She stays in a complex of holiday flats with the middle-aged teacher and his young mistress, who is also on the same plane. The neighborhood contains a lot of Chinese tourists, as Su Ping discovers at a restaurant managed by Dong Zaishi.

Star Power

This movie is cast by a new set of actors, who pretty much did a mediocre performance and wasn’t much intriguing. Only He Yang stood out amongst everyone whereas Yan Wenjun barely captured hearts as a “cute nurse.”

Overall Opinion

The movie can be enjoyed by viewers who are huge fans of Chinese- Virus outbreaks movies and can be well engaged. Wouldn’t go wrong to give it a shot once.
