The Feel-Good Part

Like all historical dramas, especially Chinese historical dramas, this film is beautiful. It has incredible visual effects, and set designs. It also has wonderful action sequences and choreography that leave you at the edge of your seat at all times. The film is a visual treat from start to finish, and with a pretty exciting storyline, it makes for a great watch.

The Disappointing Factor

Historical dramas are not easy to watch. They can be pretty tricky to keep up with, especially if you are new to watching dramas. If you are a historical drama enthusiast or are familiar with the lore behind historical dramas, then you will find it interesting. However, if you are new to watching dramas and new to the whole genre of historical dramas, then this is not a very easy viewing experience.

In-Depth Analysis

The Mad Monk is an excellent look into the mythology of Chinese dragons. It is a beautiful look into the lore and the sentiments that go into these mythical creatures. It is also a great look into how kindness and sincerity can change even the hardest of hearts and how good will always prevail no matter what.

Star Power

The lead role of Li Xin Yuan is played by Benny Chan, who gives a beautiful performance of a fierce yet zen individual who is always there for his community. Benny Chan has quite an extensive resume with roles in various films and dramas, including Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, Journey to the West II, Holy Monk, and so many more. Zhang Chu Xuan plays the role of Pu Kui. A role that she plays to absolute perfection. She has also been in many films and dramas,  including Dragon Hunter, Love is Like A Butterfly, Love Unexpected, and so many more.

Overall Opinion

If you are willing to get into historical dramas and give it the time, energy, and focus it deserves, you may come to enjoy this film, as well as appreciate it for its visuals and special effects. The story is lovely and something you do not want to miss.
