Movie Digest

On the first day of school, Su Meng Meng sees a boy near her school gate holding his mother’s hand and refusing to let go. She blurted out the words ‘Mommy’s Boy’, not knowing that this boy, named Wen Bai Huan is a transfer student, would be arranged to sit beside her in class. During the exams, Bai Huan snatches the first rank leaving Meng Meng depressed. With a boy from another class wanting to give a gift to Meng Meng, Bai Huan rejects him for her instead of Meng Meng doing it herself. This act makes Meng Meng remember her childhood playmate Ah Nuo, not knowing that Ah Nuo is Bai Huan. What blossoms between the two childhood sweethearts? Will Meng Meng find out who Bai Huan truly is? Watch the movie and find out.

The Feel-Good Part

The movie follows the traditional storyline of childhood sweethearts and how people grow apart as they grow older but still manage to have some connection no matter how much they become different people. The storyline is wholesome at best and leaves you rooting for the characters. Visually, it is a very good movie; the camera angles, color, and cinematography add to the story’s appeal.

The Disappointing Factor

The film is cheesy at best and formulaic at worst. There’s not much done to the storyline of childhood sweethearts. It isn’t something fresh and new. But if you are looking for something that falls into the typical romance genre, and doesn’t have much going for it, then you will enjoy this movie. We also root for the characters, but the road to it is very long, drawn out, and does not have much to it. Other than that, it’s a really beautiful-looking film with a sweet storyline.

In-Depth Analysis

The Goodbye before Graduation is a look into how distance and time make people change, but it also secretly makes the heart grow fonder. It may be cliche and cheesy, but it is still something that you can get a lot out of. There is a childhood romance, beautiful actors, and fantastic cinematography, so it may make for a wonderful viewing experience.

Star Power

Ming Peng plays the lead role in the film and gives a beautiful performance as the shy yet intimidating character he portrays. Ming Peng has starred in several other movies and dramas, such as My Rich Little Brother, Royal Feast, Bodies at Rest, and many more. Other star performances come from Hou Chengyue, who makes her debut with this film, and Cheng Yinuo who also delivers a stellar performance.

Overall Opinion

If you are looking for a romantic drama filled with unrequited love, childhood sweethearts, secrets, and sweetness, then this film is for you. Several other films that use this storyline to greater effect, but you can give this movie a try.
