The Feel Good part

The film begins with some fantastic VFX animation that grips the audience the entire time. The visuals speak for themselves, making the movie quite self-explanatory for a broader range of audiences. With the appropriate colors, costumes, symbols, atmosphere, etc., one can obtain a glimpse of Chinese culture in the movie.  Each frame’s color scheme plays with clashing hues to evoke different emotions in the spectator. This film is the ideal synthesis of Wuxia, history, fantasy, and romance.

The Disappointing Factor

The plot of the film is quite linear. The movie gives off ordinary Chinese vibes, making it predictable for the audience. It is better to avoid expecting an extraordinary tale from this film.

In-Depth Analysis

Pu SongLing’s discovery of his wife’s genuine love for him serves as the central theme of the narrative, along with everything that transpires in the meantime. This film offers more things than just romance. One can fully immerse yourself in the world of fantasy. The scenes have a use of cool color schemes that call for tranquil language delivery, while the use of warmer color schemes in sequences for rage and conflict.

From being a selfish person to doing everything in his power to bring his deceased lover back to life, the development of the protagonist’s personality throughout the film is fascinating to watch. It is conventional for us to undervalue and take our loved ones for granted. The movie encourages us to appreciate people’s love and respect towards each other while they are still alive. Similar to most of the Francis Nam films, even this has a monster versus hero vibe. In China, this genre is classified as Wuxia, also known as a martial hero. The movie is a solid fantasy action flick with a healthy dose of romance.
