Movie digest

Kang-Yi,  A-Ram, and So-Young study in the same class and are close friends. They are different poles, and they are always seen together. So-young is vivacious and is also a class beauty. She does her best to save the other two from trouble every time. A-Ram hails from a low-income family and though he has a weak family history, is the most lively of the three. Kang-Yi, though, is an introverted person but is the main person who helps maintain their relationship. Without any aim, these three girls plan to run away from home to Seoul, thanks to the idea given by the head-strong So-Young. However, they don’t have enough money sooner. While they have to make difficult choices, their relationships also turn bitter. Watch the movie to know their journey.

The feel-good part

Though Snowball shares similarities with other such pictures, including Bleak Night, After My Death, and Young Adults Matter, it succeeds in taking the storyline in its unique way. Lee hasn’t done an exaggerated direction, and the movie manages to send its message convincingly. The film also has both stray and domesticated dogs and cats, and they are also used to send across some important messages. Besides, the problems faced by the high school teens are keenly observed in the movie. School bullying is told with composure in the movie. The camera is also handled well by Lee Jaeu. Han Young-kyu takes care of editing the scenes with the appropriate length.

The disappointing factor

The reason for which So-young brings the idea of running away from home could have been apparent. This is more so because she comes from a wealthy family and has the most convenient life.

In-depth analysis

Director Lee Woo-Jung talks in her debut feature film about the relationship shared by three close friends. The movie is based on the novel Choisunui Sarm by Lim Solah. Though the difficulties faced by high school teenagers have been touched in many films, this movie has a unique feel to it.

Star power

Lee has definitely succeeded in bringing the best from the three lead actresses. One should especially give credit to Bang Min-ah for giving an earnest performance. Her emotional outbursts will strike a chord with the audience. Shim Dal-Gi is at her best when she talks about her strained relationship with her father. Han Sung-min essays the transformations in her nature in a convincing manner. The Girl’s Day singer’s performance is a pleasant surprise in the movie.

Overall opinion

Though the audience is accustomed to such movie plots of problems of adolescence, Lee Woo-sung’s Snowball comprehends the subject correctly and takes it forward beautifully.
