Movie Digest

“ Royal kitchen in Qing Dynasty” is about the forbidden City of Qing’ china, is about the Four love stories weaving around the food in different course of time. Zhang Dong Guan helps their acquaintances to go on good terms with their loved ones while he himself suffers from the love loss. It proposes the love story between royalty and the Han – commoners.

The Feel-Good Part

The movie explores Qing era culture and traditions widely in contrast to the genre ; this period had been in turmoil which can’t be deducted easily into aesthetically rich representation of political history (as its flagship) as shown in this movie, such as magnificent embroidery dresses of female lead roles, appreciate the medicinal science, the glimpses of the theatrical tradition of Chinese performer which isn’t more of showed in series. However this series carries a light-hearted storyline the prevalent one of wuxia ( fighting).

The Disappointing Factor

One of the fascinating features of the Chinese film industry is their long-running episodes, which elaborate not only the plots into depth put also unveils the emotions of the protagonist as an intense moment in it. This movie is well-written but can’t able to pull off it’s audiences on-screen. The morally raised questions have been stacked with viewers, again and again like; how does a widow can hang out with her male subordinate in that period?

In-Depth Analysis

The proponent of the story cast began with the wedding of lord Chang and her soon-to-be wife, Jing Xian Ge. Whereas after finishing ceremonial rituals, the bride told him about her love for the other man while imposing moral restrictions on the lord for keeping the marriage agreement in names only. Whereas the prince also has secret love affairs with his lover. After the war with the northern frontiers,  lord Chang a military leader, was reported missing. Princess Gege has now  abandoned a widow after him. At the beginning of the summer season, the royal kitchen  accidentally set on fire, and there Zhang Dong Guan, the royal chef, rescued the people who were inside the building. There the Princess met his long-lost lover, but he seemed to doesn’t care about her as that much in the past. While consoling with him, she memorizes the past events with him while sobbing for her destiny to end like that. Together, they try to overcome the boundaries between couples, families, palaces, and royalties among themselves with commoners. But gradually, they started to harmonize with each other; Gege spotted the late lord Chang while enjoying a meal with the ‘Dong Guan. Did the lord Chang come to take away his wife? Why did  lord Chang wrongly spread his death news to the palace? Did the emperor would agree to the idea of their marriage?

Star Power

Watching Uvin Wang in “ once we get married”, it’s glorious to see her in costume drama with her profound acting skills, which overlap the loopholes in the storyline. Her overall looks in traditional design dresses made it impossible for viewers to not to stick to it at least once.

Overall Opinion

As the saying goes, “Food is an edible piece of history”, conveyed beautifully through this movie. The age-old tradition of Chinese culinary medicine has shown in such a great length that we all can relate to our ancient medicine system easily. While if you’re looking for an emotional escape source, then it doesn’t help you.
