Drama Digest

Developed in association with TICAC (Thailand Internet Crime Against Children – a task force made for the protection of children), THE LEAKED is a Thailand-based, cautionary web series with just three episodes talking about the dark side of social media. It shows two schoolgirls making some mistakes that lead to the devastation of their lives. The third episode, as expected from an educational or cautionary show, gives a message to all of us about how to carefully navigate our lives through social media. The title, The Leaked, is evident in explaining the plot of the show – how private photos and videos of some characters in the story get leaked on social media websites and how they are misused and abused on the internet.

The Feel-Good Part

Being a thriller series with an overall dark and suspenseful environment, the show lacks any feel-good parts. The show delivers its idea and message carefully, keeping a gloomy atmosphere throughout the story. So, there isn’t anything, in particular, feel-good with the show. Thus, if you are looking for a school-based light show, this might not be it.

The Disappointing Factor

The show is a very brief and simplistic narration of the darker aspects of social media. It could have developed further and shown more areas of social media and how it entices and excites young people. It could have ventured more into the themes of dating apps, online chats with strangers, etc., that lead to a lot of crime against children, especially young girls.

In-Depth Analysis

Having school students as protagonists of the story, the show reach its target audience easily, which is again the adolescent population occupied extensively with social media. The show talks about how privacy is breached on the internet, and our personal and private information gets leaked on the internet and is abused eventually. It shows how a simple decision in one’s life can have critical consequences for people. Adolescents, who have an entire life ahead of themselves with future and promises, can ruin their lives by just engaging in something that traps them soon. The show, with its brief running time, gives a glimpse of how we, even while being educated and being cautious of internet use, contribute to creating the dark side.

Star Power

With fantastic acting by all the stars – Shinaradee Anupongpichart, Korapat Kirdpan, Pattarawadee Laosa, and Jinjuta Siripeng, the show delivers its serious message in an impactful manner.

Overall Opinion

The show has an important message for young teenagers drawn towards the glamour and beauty of social media. Online identity becomes a priority for teenagers, and they spend lot of time and energy refining it. The Leaked creates an awareness to the young viewers that while using social media is an integral part of today’s society, one must be aware of the harm it is capable of doing, and hence, one must be cautious of how they use it.
