Drama Digest
JJ is young but jobless. He does not have any dreams and does not know what to do with his life. JJ does not have any clue as to what he is doing in his life. Though jobless, he reasons that he doesn’t work any random job until knowing what he loves to do. His girlfriend Fern is fed up with his behaviour and decides to break up with him. They both have a loud argument about this.
Vichai is the old neighbour of JJ. He recently lost his wife, Nid. He is lost and does not find any reason to live alone. Each corner of his house reminds him of his dead wife and, he can’t beat it. He overhears his neighbour couples arguing. The show follows the unusual friendship between these two people.
The Feel-Good Part
The execution and screenplay present the ideologies of the older generation to the present. It also sheds light on the struggles of the current Youth. It is a heartwarming story to watch.
The Disappointing Factor
The show has just four episodes. Viewers might end up wanting to see more.
In-Depth Analysis
JJ is also an orphan with only an elder sister. After his breakup, he finds he owns less than a thousand baht in his account and contacts her for help. She refuses and reminds him how she decided to cut ties with him after he screwed up an interview she arranged for him. He tries contacting one of his friends but gets refused because he borrowed money from him from time ago and still has not returned it. JJ is sad to find he has nothing to eat from his kitchen. The mangoes hanging from his neighbour’s tree catch his eye. Vichai is trying to take his own life by consuming several pills but is interrupted by loud noises in his garden. Vichai catches JJ stealing mangoes and calls the police when JJ denies apologizing. The police ask JJ to help Vichai with his garden chores as punishment. Since JJ can not pay money, he agrees. While helping Vichai with his garden chores, JJ finds that the aged man has money. He offers to help his neighbour with other house chores if he pays for it. They both become comfortable around each other after spending time. They exchange their ideas of life and seek each other’s opinions. They both start learning about each other and depend on one another. JJ saves Vichai when he tries to take his own life. He becomes more cheerful and happy to help Vichai. Vichai helps JJ find a job and helps him prepare for the interview. JJ gets the job. Vichai collapses during JJ’s job interview. JJ can’t focus on his work with Vichai in the hospital. He tells his boss the issue and his decision to quit the job. The boss offers him a work-from-home facility so that JJ can take care of Vichai by his side. Vichai decides to live for JJ.
Star Power
Though the cast is small, all of them have done very well. Nhing Nirut Sirijanya as Vichai has done a fabulous job. He has carried his character very well and for sure steals the entire show.
Overall Opinion
Tea Box is an excellent off-beat drama. It is not mainstream. Worth watching.
