Drama Digest

Tine is a college freshman ready to make his reputation as the college ‘chic boy’ till he finds himself being chased by Green. Finding himself unable to shake loose of Green’s advances, Tine and his friends come up with a plan to start a fake relationship with the college’s most popular guy- Sarawat. A hilarious chase ensues as Tine begs Sarawat to pretend to be his boyfriend. But what will happen when the lines between fiction and reality blur?

The Feel-Good part

The show has an animated charm to it with the 2 leads playing cat and mouse. The light-hearted storyline and stakes make it easy for the audience to enjoy the show. It is heart-warming and a comfortable watch. The chemistry between Bright and Win is charming. The side couples also do their part to make the show enjoyable.  Their use of Music also made the experience more enjoyable. The author of the novel the show is based on mentioned his love for music. Specifically, she mentioned the Thai musical duo Scrubb who were featured in the show. The show’s playlist is a highlight.

The Disappointing Factor

Music is a significant string in the series; however, it is not used with the impact implied by the characters. There are times when the editing and sound feel clumsy. The show feels rushed as the last few episodes approach. The viewers may sometimes find the lack of nuance off-putting.

In-Depth Analysis

2gether is a series that relies wholly on famous tropes and executes them decently. Fake dating, College rivalry, and love triangles are all touched upon to accentuate what we all know to be the end goal- getting Tine and Sarawat to fall in love. Though you don’t have to be acquainted with these archetypes to enjoy them if you are it makes the show feel predictable. What the show does add to these cliches is a wholesome relationship built on trust. The awkward glances, bickering and moments of forced proximity the show undertakes, it delivers. It is jolly, funny romantic and cheesy without being overwhelmingly cringy.  However, the initial awkwardness and chemistry between Tine and Sarawat seem to fizzle away in the second half of the show. The narrative also finds itself in yet another cliché close to the finale, but it feels unearned. Despite it, 2gether: The Series, is still a good watch, mostly owing itself to the early storylines that make the audience invested in the character setups.

Star Power

Bright Vachirawit has a loaded filmography, but 2gether acted as his jumping pad to fame; 2gether is his first BL series. Win Opas-iamkajorn did an exceptional job in his first major role. Both the actors brought their colour to the characters of Sarawat and Tine.

Overall Opinion

It is a heart-warming drama for anyone who is looking for something light-hearted to watch. 2gether is the perfect show for people taking their first steps into the world of BL content.
