Drama Digest

Dr. Prakam is very passionate about his vocation. He is skillful and famous for saving lives. Unfortunately for him, the grim reaper Tuaphee shares the same passion as him for doing his job, which is collecting the souls of the dying people that he is arduously trying to save.

This puts them in a very volatile situation, where Prakam absolutely dislikes Tuaphee for interfering with his job. However, despite their differences and contrasting intentions, they slowly start to care for each other.

The Feel-Good Part

There are some cute moments between the main leads and the secondary couples, which give the viewer butterflies. In addition to some of the funny moments, the ever-trusty fall-and-catch scenes, that were supposed to be romantic, cause some unintentional giggles.

The Disappointing Factor

There are lots of consistency errors. Tuaphee, being a grim reaper, abides by some code or set of rules. However, these rules are silly and conveniently used to hold plot points. They are also broken several times for no apparent reason.

Also, the nature of Tuaphee’s existence is not clearly explained. He cannot be called a ghost, has a physical form, but then he can teleport. Which is simply not possible. Why does he need food and rest? Also, him being invisible in all clothes except Hawaiian shirts is kind of illogical.

In-Depth Analysis

Prakan is a doctor and Tuaphee reaps souls. The plot is about how these two overcome such opposite circumstances for each other. It is genuinely a very interesting take on BL, but it suffers a lot in presentation. For once, it is understandable that Prakan dislikes Tuaphee for what he is while trying to save people. However, I don’t like how he takes things too far.Tuaphee’s job is to just escort souls to the afterlife, and given his gentle nature, I can tell he tries to be very careful about that. But the way Prakan berates and ill-treats Tuaphee for that is so uncalled for.

Doctors are generally prepared to see some death on the operating table, so this kind of unprofessional behavior doesn’t make sense. What’s worse, the situation is repeated over and over again, which gets on my nerves. I find some of the characters immature, with horrible communication skills. It almost feels forced. The technical mistakes of some of the medical aspects bewilder me. The pacing is far too slow. The writing is aimless and dull. The end has no build-up, is anticlimactic, and comes out of nowhere. The script doesn’t hold up, although everyone pretty much gave a strong performance. I would have liked to see the story of the secondary couples be more developed and explored into something more substantial, but sadly, that never happens and they are just disappointing.

Star Power

Nutchapon Rattanamongkol tries his best as Prakan, but it would have been better to cast someone else. He comes off as very wooden. Kasidej Hongladaromp is beautiful and emphatic as Tuaphee. The supporting cast, consisting of the talented Pavadee Komchokpaisan, Patsit Permpoonsavat, Weerapat Toemmaneerat, and Pat Chatburirak deliver a strong performance.

Overall Opinion

The series has tried to be a sensitive BL drama with depth, but it does come off as shallow and improperly done. Some of the moments were genuinely sweet, however, they couldn’t make up for the damages.
