Drama Digest

Woori The Virgin is the South Korean adaptation of the famous 2014 American series ‘Jane the Virgin’. During a medical exam mix-up, a sworn virgin and assistant writer for a popular drama series becomes artificially inseminated. She later discovers she is pregnant and insists that the hospital investigate the situation. When she later finds the child’s father is none other than the CEO of a famous cosmetic company, who is on the verge of divorce from his beautiful wife, Woori gets stuck between her boyfriend of two years and the father of her child. Who will she choose?

The Feel-Good Part

The show is light-hearted and fluffy. The drama did an excellent job of preserving the humour of the original series ‘Jane the Virgin.’

The Disappointing Factor

While the drama tries to keep up with the American series, it is not entirely successful in doing so. Also, the show gets too cringy at points, which may put off some viewers.

In-Depth Analysis

Woori the Virgin is a satisfying remake of Jane the Virgin. While the Korean version tries to keep up with the American version, it is not exactly successful in doing so. There are many cringy scenes to look out for, and the character development is also not remarkable. But underneath the cringe comedy and often ridiculous premise, Woori The Virgin tells a captivating story about the subtleties of life – generational grief, loss, single parenting, artificial insemination, and social shame – through the eyes of people who are excellent but helpless in the face of their circumstances. The show takes a relatable and realistic look at society’s irrational views on women’s sexuality and identity. One of the great plus points of the show is that it has a strict no-tolerance policy towards main toxic leads. Unlike the usual arrogant and rude CEO, the character is more reasonable and mature in this series.

Star Power

The versatility of Im Soo Hyang is clearly visible in the series. The cast, including the main leads, effortlessly portrayed their characters. A few of the cast’s acting was not up to par, but the main form fills in for that.

Overall Opinion

Woori the Virgin is your light-hearted fluffy drama to watch when you are stressed or need a break. This drama is for you if you can enjoy mindless comedies and cringy storylines.
