Sweet Home is a Korean horror and fantasy television series. It begins with a depressed teen Cha Hyan Soo moving into the Green House apartment after losing his family. To his horror he finds out that the inmates of this building are caught in the middle of an apocalypse and are constantly trying to save themselves from hungry and dangerous monsters. Whoever gets infected by these monsters turn into the likes of the same and starts hunting for humans.
With monsters attacking the building from different parts and several of the residents getting infected, it becomes the duty of the remaining inmates to take charge for their own survival.
However, the plot is not all consumed by fear and gore. The show brings forward the underlying personal stories of the residents in its course. Many of the characters take up charge as leaders and take strong decisions while making sacrifices while many others create nuisance and trouble. Lee do- Hyuk, a medical student takes charge to make plans of action and provides necessary food and help to his fellow residents. He is also the protective brother to the stubborn Eun-yu who holds a grudge against him. The former firefighter, Seon Yi-kyeong turns out to be the guiding light of this group. The skillful martial arts performer struggles to find out the truth of the disappearance of her fiancé and links it to the government mission of finding out about the monsters attacking them. Pyeon Sang-wook comes across as a gangster and outcast but takes on his own mission in the show.
The show also sends out a bigger message. The humans who are infected and turn into monsters are not all bloodthirsty, some overcome their beastly nature and try to help. This shows that we as humans can also overcome our negative traits and do good.
The series encompasses around thrilling action as well as endearing moments. The title proves to be an antithesis to the main plot of the show which makes it ever more interesting. Season 1 comes with many heartbreaks and goodbyes and makes us all lookout for season 2 and the drama that will unfold in it.
