Drama Digest
“The Palace” is a story about two people of different statuses trying to survive in the Palace which is a warzone. So Sang is a court maid, one day, she is caught by one of the consorts while meeting her lover. It is prohibited for a court lady to have a lover. She is ordered to be dismissed, to survive she decides to become a spy for the consort. She enters Princess consort Bong’s place with no choice trying to make sure she has a miscarriage. The story unfolds as she tries to earn the trust of consort Bong Son.
The Feel-Good Part
Crown princess Bong is a person with a futuristic mindset. The way she helps So Sang when her father dies is very wholesome. When So-Sang introduces herself, we can see the Princess introducing herself as “I’m Bong Song” which shows how she defies the status differences. The way she also doesn’t care about her status is very charming.
The Disappointing Factor
At first, the princess consort continuously abuses the court maids and fires them which is misleading and confuses us about her personality. Even when So-Sang enters her room for the first time she pranks her which makes her faint. She is shown as a crazy character which makes her look like a villain. But as we watch further, we can get that she is a good person.
In-Depth Analysis
So Sang is a court maid who became the breadwinner of her family as her father is extremely sick and her brother ran away from home. One day she overhears a consort Kwon talking about how the princess Bong is pregnant even after they secretly fed her medicine. She decides to ignore it, but she is caught having an affair which is prohibited so she is ordered to be beaten and dismissed. To survive, she pleads to consort Kwon to let her go and offers to do anything. The evil consort decides to make her a spy and orders her to make the Crown princess miscarry. She enters Princess Bong’s place and tries to earn her trust. The Princess consort is known for being nasty to her court maids. She doesn’t trust So Sang and tests her and hits her at first, Eventually, she starts to trust her and reveals her true personality which is kind. Consort Bong tells So Sang that she is not pregnant and acting to be pregnant as her father told her to do it to not lose the favor of the king. They fight their own battles trying to survive in the palace.
Star Power
Kim Sae Ron and Jung Da-Eun did an excellent job and the friendship between these two is adorable. Other supporting characters also did well.
Overall Opinion
This movie is about palace politics and how everyone in the palace is deprived of their freedom. It is very entertaining and heart-warming. This is perfect to watch when you want to watch something fun without having to watch too many episodes. It is worth watching.
