Drama Digest

Last scene is an unusual movie for the horror mastermind Hideo Nakata which is a personal foray into Drama. The story revolves around the year 2000, of an old-time actor. The actor has been retired for quite some time and gets cast in a low-budget film. While working on this low-budget film he realizes how the soulless assembly process of the assembly line methods has taken over the fertile methods. The creative method of the past the atmosphere that would bring motivation and energy has been lost over time. The fine contrast between the past and the present system is shocking for the lead. The current system has become like a hierarchy that the artists cannot bear. The new methodical structure doesn’t have much room for growth and creativity. Maybe this is the reason the main lead thinks that many creative movies are no longer produced or living in the cinema sphere.

The Feel-Good Part

The Movie’s plot is the most amazing thing; it brings the most overlooked aspects of the cinema Industry. It does not portray any theme in a complex and hard-to-understand manner. It is a slow and gradual changing movie.

The Disappointing Part

The acting of some actors or most of the time the acting of all the actors looks pretentious. The movie can seem a bit off in the timing which is quite slow. The pace of the movie is not that fast but at a time this slow progression feels monotonous.

In-Depth Analysis

The Movie portrays the current situation in the Japanese movie industry is facing. It has become more of a mechanical process rather than a creative outcome. This leads to the result of producing movies lacking emotions, vibrancies, and creativity. The movie is orchestrated in such a way that it presents the lacking resources and emotion through the eyes of a movie lover once an actor. We all know the conclusion and are aware of the situation yet we still wait for the end to come.

Star Power

The main lead is the power star of the complete movie. We start to pity and empathize with the main lead just twenty minutes into the movie. The interpersonal acting skills of the main lead are effective for the audience as they find the main lead acting that is natural and worth appreciating.

Overall Opinion

The movie shows the potential of the director who is known better for the horror genre. If you are looking for a movie that will take you out of your writers’ block or reader’s block or you just don’t feel motivated enough then go for this movie. The movie fine contrasting makes you realize just like the protagonist that there are so many changes that we haven’t perceived them as changes until and unless we are pointed towards them.
