Drama Digest

Shonan Theater is an island for entertainers without proper skills or talent. One day a solo comedian Tokiura comes to this theatre to perform, which ends up as a complete disaster for the audience; but, he soon receives an invite for a program from the theatre manager to join as a duo due to his unique sense of the material. The other seven entertainers and Tokiura come up with different ideas and perform stand-up comedies to get famous but sometimes face disagreements, quarrels, and jealousy as their views differ. Every day starts with a new chaotic drama, and soon they bond and form a friendship and try their best to succeed and reach their dreams.

The Feel-Good Part

This series talks about friendships, jealousy, laughter, and the ambitions of youngsters on the verge of failing. The show is light-hearted and enjoyable to watch. It contains diverse characters and their developments throughout the series. The show feels realistic yet ridiculous at times. It is fast-paced, and the expectations increase as the plot progresses. The acting performance of Yoshihiko Aramaki and Masanari Wada was excellent and entertaining. The other members also do a decent job in this show. The single-camera worked well with this show as the raw and authentic atmosphere got showcased. The comedy is a bit bland, but it still maintains audience engagement.

The Disappointing Factor

This show has a great idea, but the execution lacks in many ways. The dramatic and emotional aspects of the show got well performed, yet the comedy was dry and unfunny. Some dialogue deliverance missed its mark. Some characters didn’t get enough on-screen time and were left out. Most episodes were more about character introductions rather than plot progression.

In-Depth Analysis

The story of young performers trying to escape their bad reputation and gain fame to fulfill their dreams is the core idea behind this show. The show has a beautiful and realistic view of how failures can change their fate with luck and a single chance. Every episode captures these young entertainers pulling off new shenanigans and drama to forward in their careers. The show provides the audience with live stage performances and behind-the-scenes events, which creates chaos and a fun experience for the performers.

Star Power

This show got directed by Junta Yamaguchi and Kazuaki Hashimoto. The writer of this show is Makoto Ueda and Tomohiro Otoshi. Yoshihiko Aramaki plays Kai Tokiura, Masanari Wada plays Seiki Shima, Tsubasa Sakiyama plays Ryo Narimiya, Yuki Torigoe plays Asuma Hebiya, Shohie Hashimoto plays Gaku Wanno, Ryosei Tanaka plays Tasuku Inukai, Syo Jinnai plays Eiichi Genda, and Mizuki Umetsu plays Mamoru Amano in this series.

Overall Opinion

A sorrowful youth comedy with a pinch of drama and an attractive cast getting audiences interested in watching. This series is spectacular in terms of technical aspects but lacks overall plot build-up yet can be a pass-time watch.
