Drama Digest

Shen Ye, the male lead, protects Shu Cheng as she possesses remarkable intelligence as the shizi, and she poses a threat to the Emperor due to her family’s influential military might. To counter this, the Emperor covertly dispatches assassins to eliminate her. However, she repeatedly foils these attempts, safeguarding herself without fail from the shadows of Shen Ye. Shen Ye employs various disguises to blend into her inner circle, discreetly ensuring her safety. After yet another successful rescue of Shu Cheng, a series of events leads to her developing feelings for him. In a surprising twist, Shen Ye alters his identity and unveils himself as the proprietor of Feng Lou. It is an establishment where affluent women gather for drinks and entertainment provided by male courtesans.

The Feel-Good Part

The show has an unusual yet refreshing plot. It has excellent humor and lovely characters. The second duo is genuinely remarkable, presenting an immensely engaging storyline. Li Zhehao and Peng Yaqi (or Yakisa) deliver exceptional performances, portraying a profoundly affecting couple with great finesse. The direction and the production of the drama are excellent as well!

The Disappointing Factor

The show is excellent, besides a few minor flaws. It gained significantly few views and feedback due to its weak English subtitles.

In-Depth Analysis

In the Kingdom of Great Chu, the traditional gender roles have been reversed, creating a society where women occupy positions of power and authority. Women hold significant governmental offices, including generals and ministers, while men are primarily responsible for domestic tasks and childcare and are in a subservient role to their wives. The ruler is a female emperor, and even prestigious titles, like the female shizi, are inherited through the female line. Inheritance and titles are passed down to daughters, and men are integrated into women’s families through marriage. Additionally, there is a prevalence of courtesan houses where men cater to the women’s plasure. We also see the romance between Shen Ye and Shu Cheng, who are the main leads of the drama.

Star Power

The series was good with a great cast. Yuan Hao played the leading role of Shen Ye, Claire Jia was as Shu Cheng, Li Zhe Hao as Shen Cong, Yakisa as Murong Wan Qing, Sun Xi Zhi as Bi Yun, and Candy Zhang as Shu Rou.

Overall Opinion

The show was good, with a strong female and male lead. If you are into dramas based on historical events or action, this will surely entice you!
