Drama Digest
Vacation of Love is a Chinese drama for New Year’s eve. The drama explores the life of different people on vacation in Sanya, trying to figure out their life. Xu Ke Yi falls in love with Hou Hao, a stranger she meets in the resort at Sanya. She is a well-established agent, and she took her artist Gao Jun Yu to Sanya for a New year performance and to work out their ten-year-old relationship. Song Xiaoke and Chen Bin Bin, a married couple, are on a New year’s vacation with their big family at the resort. They are divorced but decide to hide the fact from their family until New year’s eve. Doctor Wen is a member of the anti-epidemic medical team. He decides to go on vacation to take a chance at reviving and rebuilding his relationship with his daughter Wen Ruo Nan.
The Feel-Good Part
The storyline unfolds in the most realistic and relatable way. The plot seems so simple yet funny and touching at the same time. The cinematography is above average, and the beauty of Sanya is explored and shown excellently. The music blends in a harmonious fashion. The entire show makes you want to go on a vacation and get your life’s shit together. The drama has 35 episodes, easy enough to seem draggy at some point, but it doesn’t feel draggy at any stage.
The Disappointing Factor
There are too many stories going around that are not interrelated. Screentime given to the leads is compromised. The drama as a whole fails to deliver one single well-built tale. The romance is given little to no importance in the script. The pace of the story is slow.
In-Depth Analysis
Xu Ke Yi(manager) has had feelings for Gao Jun Yu (idol) for ten years. She never got what she expected from the relationship. Gao Jun Yu has a performance at a resort in Sanya on new year’s eve. Xu Ke Yi goes with him for a vacation. She believes this vacation can mend their ten-year relationship and give her a happy romantic life. But things don’t go as she plans, and she ends up drunk and accidentally sleeps with a stranger at the resort. The stranger man is Hou Hao. They fall for each other with the passing time. Ke Yi realizes herself being the happiest when Hou Hao is around her and finds their relationship having everything she ever wanted. The plot follows Gao Jun Yu’s finding of their relationship and both of them getting together. On a parallel track, we have Song Xiaoke and Chen Bin Bin keeping their divorce a secret in front of their family. Song Xiaoke is a successful lady with a happy family to the outer world. But in reality, she is unhappy with her relationship and tired of Bin Bin being lazy. They end up getting a divorce. They both decide to keep it a secret from their family until the new year. On the family vacation, Bin Bin tries to mend their relationship. Xiaoke doesn’t give in easily, but both of them reminisce their good old days while watching young people in the resort having a good time. They eventually start wanting to fix things and go back to being a lovely couple. Their family antics are very close to real life, and it’s funny. Many stories within the Chen family make the plot more enjoyable. Then we have Doctor Wen trying to build a healthy relationship with his daughter Wen Ruo Nan. Ruo Nan is reluctant to open up to her father. She believes he didn’t give her the attention she deserved from a single parent after losing her mother. Doctor Wen wants to make up for all those things now. He finds help from Zhou Tong, who is interested in his daughter.
Star Power
Chen Yao plays the role of Xu Keyi. We see Yu bai as Hou Hao. But their scenes are limited though they are the leads. The other cast includes Chengpeng Dong as Chen Bin Bin, Jingchi Zhang as Song Xiaoke, Xiaoyi Chen as Dong Yanping, Jun HU as Yan, Tong Zhang as Fang Suzhen, Yunlong Zheng as Gao Junyu, Keren Kang as Chen Nuan Nuam, Yuan Xie as Chen Linchun, Mingzhu Li as Mrs Chen, Ru Ai as Shasha and Qingyu Li as Yan Su. There are no excellent performances, but together they create a refreshing vibe.
Overall Opinion
Vacation of love is a drama that caters to large audiences. The drama has the perfect family vacation vibe.
