Drama Digest
“Infernal Affairs” is a spy-themed drama helmed by Qi Dao. The story unfolds against the backdrop of 1944, just before Japan’s surrender, portraying a high-stakes battle between Communist factions and their adversaries. During this backdrop, characters grapple with their loyalty to their nation and the dire consequences they face. Amidst the backdrop of the Wang Jingwei regime during the War, Lu Feng, an orphan who completed a two-year education stint in Japan, returns to his hometown of Shanghai.
The Feel-Good Part
The drama has got an amazing cast and the storyline is cool too. It has actors like Hai Yitian, Tan Kai and Zhang Xilin that appear as special characters. The drama has a great plot that confuses the audience about the culprits and victims. There are lots of twists and turns throughout the series.
The Disappointing Factor
The ending was not very appreciated by the audience. It was quite predictable and nothing unique.
In-Depth Analysis
The story revolves around Lu Feng. Unbeknownst to outsiders, he has received a covert directive from the Communist Party to infiltrate the secretive No. 76 Headquarters. This branch, operating under utmost secrecy, collaborates with the Japanese military to quash resistance efforts by various factions, including the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. Despite the vigilant and cautious leadership of Shen Xiao, the head of No. 76, Lu Feng manages to demonstrate his value to the organization through his intelligence and unwavering dedication. In the course of his mission, Lu Feng crosses paths with the enigmatic Hua Xiang Yu, a capable woman who recently returned from studying in the United States, as well as his childhood friend Huo Fei. Both individuals seem to harbor concealed truths. Repeatedly, as Lu Feng endeavors to safeguard his undercover identity, he finds himself at odds with Hua Xiang Yu. Slowly and tentatively, they encircle each other, each nursing suspicions about the other’s true intentions. In a tumultuous era dominated by corruption and brutality, these undercover operatives navigate a landscape where sacrifices, even extending to their own lives and families, become inevitable. In the face of such turmoil, they can only opt to champion their beliefs, striving to create a more harmonious world.
Star Power
The characters did justice with their roles and performed well. Jin Dong played the role of Lu Feng, Wang Zhi Wen played the role of Mu Xi He, Wang Li Kun played the role of Hua Xiang Yu, Zhang Zi Jian played the role of Shan Guan, Chuai Ni played the role of Lan Bing, and Qi Diao played the role of Shen Xiao.
Overall Opinion
The show is excellent and has a great plot. You should watch it if you are into mystery dramas!
