Drama Digest
Adapted from the manhua “A Hidden Love Marriage,” this story follows Lin Bu Hui, who has spent five years trying to forget Xia Yu Sheng following a scheme from a friend who framed her, making her and Xia Yu Sheng strangers. After five years, Xia Yu Sheng still hates her. Bu Hui, who still harbors a desire to see him, plans to visit him for the last time but is tangled in another conspiracy.
The Feel-Good Part
The best part about this story is its four-minute runtime. The episodes are short, crisp, and easy to go through. It makes you want to stick around till the end and see how the story and the lead’s relationship unfolds. Even if the story is terrible and doesn’t work for you, the desire to finish it is strong, and the short episodes contribute to that.
The Disappointing Factor
The story is very stereotypical and has very stereotypical characters. The two main conspiracies involved in the report are evil and messy. The male lead treats the female information with cruelty and assaults her, and the female lead is a pushover who doesn’t stand up for herself.
In-Depth Analysis
This drama and its story are terrible. It perpetuates the stereotype of the cruel and mean male lead and soft-spoken and docile female lead. The romance is not healthy and should not be viewed or marketed as such. We grew out of these tropes a long time ago.
All of the characters in this drama are messy, awful, and written poorly. The story is depressing and annoying. It does not treat the emotional and sexual abuse by the male lead with the gravity it deserves.
Star Power
The acting in this drama is sub-par. The actors don’t show any emotions in many scenes, and even when they do, they don’t seem authentic or believable.
Overall Opinion
Hidden Marriage Love is a messy, poorly acted drama with an equally lousy storyline. It could be an informative, empathetic look at abusive partners and escaping them, but the execution was terrible and did not deliver that message.
