Drama Digest

The series takes inspiration from the dreaded 2014 Ebola outbreak in Africa that killed over 11,000 people and is also based on a real-life mission that China’s medical team had taken on to fight the virus.

It is set in a fictional Western African (epicenter) called Cabalia. To fight the virus, the Chinese government sends out one of its largest humanitarian missions ever from their elite People’s Liberation Army consisting of 480 doctors and medical staff.

While the series focuses on the medical staff and their fight against the virus, there is a sub plot of a journalist investigating blood diamonds.

Virologist Zheng Shu Peng and his team are fighting the unknown virus in extremely trying and backward conditions. In addition, the challenges of language and culture adds to it. But they fight all odds to come together with the locals so as to contain the virus, which they do and complete the mission as set out by the Government.

The series is all about their battle against the virus.

The Feel-Good Part

The series is taken from a true mission led by the Chinese team in Africa so it is interesting and poignant to see them battling the virus in an extremely difficult environment.  Also, the visuals are very real albeit it has been shot in China.

It is fascinating to note that series released just before the Corona outbreak making it surreal for the viewers.
