Directed by Guo Hao and Qi Xiao Hui and written for the screen by Yang Ni Kou, Consummation (拾光的秘密) is a Chinese television series. The series debuted countrywide on 22nd July 2020, continuing till 14th August 2020. It shed light on the power a group of teenagers gain to change the circumstances of their suffering, dear friend. The drama series runs over twenty-four episodes of forty-five minutes, airing on the Mango TV network.

The Feel-Good Part

The acting is done so elegantly that the audience feels the pain of Xia Shi in their hearts. Never for a moment do we stop rooting for him. The soundtrack, 拾光的秘密 (Shi Guang De Mi Mi) by Lu Hu (陆虎), is one of the assets you can look forward to in this series. It gorgeously highlights the depression Xia Shi is in and the struggles he faces after her death. One of the things that go downhill for him is his development of self-induced amnesia when he purposefully lets go of memories of a painful past.

The Disappointing Factor

Several fans have commented on the scale of grimness portrayed in the series. They reveal it too hopeless and grave to extract any encouraging lessons. If only for a jolly soundtrack, maybe the seriousness of the drama could have been balanced.

In-Depth Analysis

The story opens with a heartbroken Xia Shi who is lost with the companionship of his dear friend, Ye Sang Yu, whom he lost in high school. After ten years with good intentions, his friends designed a virtual reality game to help Xia Shi cope with the loss of Sang Yu. The game takes back a player to a period of their wish and helps correct wrongs. It gives Xia Shi an understanding of the tragic accident and strengthens his bond with Sang Yu. In this way, the television series presents itself as a self-healing gem amidst despair and sadness.

Star Power

The directors scouted actors with a delicate eye for such an awaited drama. The cast includes Zhao Yi Qin as Xia Shi, Li Hao Fei as Ye Sang Yu, Feng Jin Yuan as Su Xun, Zhou Da Wei as Lin Shan He, Wang Yi Zhe as Zhong Fan Xin, Dong Si Yi as Xu Ran Ran, Merxat as Su Zhe, Chang Long as Zhang Ping, Wang Dong as Xia Kuang Zheng, Sean Zheng as Zhao Hui Chen, Zhao Yan Song as Lin Zhi Lie, Wang Ya Jing as Teacher Chen, and He Yi Man as Yuan Xiao Meng.

Overall Opinion

Although the drama exudes dark vibes, it is a must-watch for people struggling to find peace with the passing of their close ones.
