Drama Digest

Age of Awakening is a Chinese revolutionary drama. It is to mark the 100th-anniversary celebration of the formation of the CCP (Chinese communist party). It does the story of a group of intellectuals from Peking University who became the founding members of the CCP. The focus is on the journeys of a few of the main protagonists.

The Feel-Good Part

The drama exposes people to the complicated history and political situations going on around that period. Regardless of the heavy conflicts and messed up the background, they made the drama light and seemed natural. The moderate fixing and realism of the show set it apart from other historical shows. It took time to develop every character rather than rushing from one plot to another. It can be a good educational show to expose students to the party history and the journey of China since that period.

The Disappointing Factor

Drama is perfect for gaining historical knowledge about China’s past. It will enlighten every viewer about the complex political system that existed. There are no disappointing factors in it.

In-Depth Analysis

It was the period from 1915 to 1921 when Chen Du Xiu and Li Da Zhao, along with Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Lu Xun founded the magazine called La Jeunesse. The New Culture movement started after that. To magazine promoted democracy and science and brought a revolutionary change in the ideas of the population and also encourage them to fight against imperialism, implanted in everyone. It has many such revolutionist politicians and authors that awaken themselves to save their country.

Star Power

All the characters who play the roles of the historical icons did a remarkable job. The Chen brothers became everyone’s favorite with this one, as their dramas are rare. Their characters were idealistic and showed the complex relationship they shared with their father. Zhang Wanyi and Ma Qiyue also did a splendid job.

Overall Opinion

This is an excellent historical drama related to the CCP. it will enlighten you about many facts in the history of China that people have never come across. We can also screen the show in schools as a part of history for the students. Watching it would not be disappointing.
