Not every film that is liked by the audience is also liked by the critics. There are some movies which got low ratings by the critics but were still loved by the audience. Here is our list of top ten Japanese films which in spite of low ratings could manage to earn well. Have a look!!

1. A Whisker Away-2020

Rating: 6.7/10

What's particularly enjoyable about "A Whisker Away" is that it manages to steer clear of the typical tendency of anime to overload a movie with far too many themes, side stories, and minor characters. This film has a cute yet very simple plot, as the focus is actually on the main character's progression through her challenges. It tells the adventure of a high school girl who, while always smiling and cheering everyone, is hiding a lot of pain inside herself not to trouble others. All over it is a pretty cool movie.

2. Howling Village-2019

Rating:4.8/10

Its freaking amazing as hell, and great story and plot too. Visually amazing and a  great story till the end. Definitely recommended for beginners.

3. Waterboys-2001

Rating: 7.1/10

Amazing and heart-warming, truly a tale of the heart. This is a story about hopeless swimmers who continuously fail but, want to become Japan’s first male synchronised swimming team.

4. Hatsukoi - 2019

Rating: 6.8/10

This film is action-packed with comedy, romance and drama. Fight scenes are good, actors were great and Shota Sometani “kase” is quite funny. Love is perfectly balanced. All the bloody action is mirrored with thoughtful vignettes of two young misfits brought together by a treacherous drug deal. Violent, funny, and surprisingly sweet, "first love" is a true Takashi Miike romance, and certainly worth watching.

5. Her Blue Sky-2019

Rating: 6.8/10

It's a very thought-provoking anime and has both an element of realism and a pinch of romance in it. The dilemma faced by teens and the consequences faced by their adult self has been beautifully portrayed here. It shows us how the adult world isn't all pink and blue instead it's a shade of black or rather grey where we have to bear responsibility for our own actions. You will love the movie if you are open to accepting some realties.

6. My Teacher

Rating:6.2/10

One of the best and killing feels Japanese films with a concept of a student-teacher relationship. Heart-warming, innocent, and pure. The acting is surreal. This movie is so beautiful that it leaves a lingering effect for hours after you're done watching the movie. Even if you are not into such movies, you'll not regret watching this one.

7. Hello World-2019

Rating: 7.6/10

The movie has the most satisfying ending that any animated film could ever produce. If you're looking for a little bit of different taste with a touch of magic then this is the film for you. It also adds a philosophy theory called the infinite regression which is the workings of a human mind to think about something deep and will restart thinking about the same thing again and again then it will end as an infinite regression.

8. Colors Of Wind-2017

Rating: 5.5/10

A Japanese romantic adventure of the magician's world with the concepts of doppelgangers and deja vu feelings. Ultimate cinematography and feeling of sad glimpses hidden behind the truth. It is so disturbing when you feel that someone like you exists in the world. A nice watch.

9. The World Of Kanako-2014

Rating: 6.5/10

Beautiful yet disturbing film. As always, the beautiful and brilliant Nana Komatsu was impressive and professional despite her young age. Recommend this movie. it has a lot of blood in it so if you are light-hearted then this isn’t the movie for you.

10. L: Change The World-2008

Rating: 6.1/10

A weird and bizarre movie that rounds out the trilogy of death note movies rather nicely. Matsuyama’s performance is great always and doesn’t seem to disappoint in this one too. He has done perfect justice to the character. He is so adorable in l change the World! i highly recommend it!
