Anime Digest

This is a special episode of the donghua (Chinese anime) ‘Tian Guan Ci Fu’, which occurs after the finale of the main show. Here the two leads Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, at the Puqi Shrine, reminisce about the events that occurred recently. Xie Lian explores his memories, some make him proud and some are embarrassing. He realizes how much he has changed over time and how his words and actions have earned him respect.

The Feel-Good Part

Right off the bat, the animation is beautiful and the story is deep. The episode is full of various emotions. When the stories of Xie Lian and Hua Cheng meet together, magic happens. The relationship between the two leads is well illustrated. The story is captivating, with a touch of tragedy. More than the story, the way of portraying the story is amazing.

The Disappointing Factor

This episode doesn’t disappoint at any point of its runtime. Though the main show has some problems, i.e. the war scenes may have been portrayed in a better way and the story might seem confusing in the beginning for some people.

In-Depth Analysis

The relationship between characters has been kept at top priority. Both the leads share an awesome chemistry between them. While the dialogues are already so captivating, the art style and animation turn the atmosphere into a beautiful dreamland. To further beautify the already beautiful atmosphere, the soothing music score does a good job. This episode portrays one of the most beautiful parts of the original novel (on which the show is based).

Star Power

Guangtao Jiang perfectly voices the strong and honorable Xie Lian, driving us deep in the show. Zhengyang Ma voices the character of Hua Cheng. He makes his character feel alive with his voice.

Overall Opinion

The donghua is like a sad song – tragic, relaxing and captivating at the same time. And the same for this special episode. After watching the whole show, this special episode is like a cherry on the cake.
