Drama Digest

A journey that started in the 19th century in an airship ride to Paris. That led Noé to a human named Vanitas, who claimed to be a doctor of the Vampires, continues in the prequel of the anime. In part one of the anime, we see them cure the Vampires of “malnomen” which drives them to act recklessly against their will. The only Book that can cure those lies connected to Vanitas, the Vampire of the Blue moon. Even though hated by the traditional Vampire society of the Vampire of the Red Moon, Vanitas is on his quest to heal them. Noé, who was sent to search the whereabouts of the Book of the Vampire of, the Blue Moon, joins forces with Vanitas on his conquest to cure all the “curse bearers”. They discover the danger lurking behind this is because of a mysterious dark power Charlatan. And that the phantom from the past the Beast of Gevaudan, has returned with his dark forces restored. Noé tags along with Vanitas, again to investigate the demon from hell. To unfold the mystery of the Vampire society and the Vampire of the Blue Moon himself, you have to watch it yourself.

The Feel-Good Part

The beautiful setting of the anime gives you a complacent feeling, and the mysterious characters and incidents leave you in awe. Even though the plot is spun around mystery you will find most of the scenes to be a light-hearted comedy with wit. The anime is based on the Manga with the same name and it gives you a vintage vibe. You get a broader perspective of the Vampire society and clans, along with their interest and distinct personalities. The animation is executed beautifully, giving you the aesthetic feel and appeal.

The Disappointing Factor

The only disappointing factor in the animation was that it felt it was too limited and then towards the end, it was rushed. Starting with subtle mystery and then running towards the end to end abruptly might feel disappointing to the audience, but there’s a catch in this too. The animation house Funimation has already announced a second season of the anime, so the rushed ending explains it all.

In-Depth Analysis

The anime deals with some surprising psychological themes of existence and identity. Vanitas, the Vampire of the Blue Moon, becomes the most hated Vampire of the era. But what no one witnesses is his fight for his identity and existence. It beautifully shows how the dark powers of Charlatan corrupt the name of the vampires to control them to create havoc. Corrupting name and the existential crisis have a significant role in this anime which elevates this anime from just being a Vampire and supernatural anime to something marvelous. Packed with mystery and drama this anime reveals some of the problems of today’s youth.

Star Power

Vanitas and Noé would be the stars of the show. The duo not only steals hearts but also takes away your peace. This leaves you unsettled, and craving for more of them. This duo like any other friendship laughs and fights together. But then again there’s this suspense that Noé always talks about; the end of their friendship.

Overall Opinion

An amazing watch and a unique approach to portraying Vampire involved supernatural incidents. The first part was amazing location higher expectations for the second part but the second part of season 1 successfully has stood up to the expectations. The setting, thrill, animation, plot, everything keeps you intrigued and glued to the screen. If you are a person who likes Bram Stoker’s Dracula or the mysterious character of The Phantom of the Opera then trust is what you should have and start with it.
