Anime Digest

After a long and hard battle, in which he died numerous times, Subaru finally beat the Witch Cult’s Sin Archbishop, Petelgeuse Romaneeconti – the Sin of Sloth. With that, he eliminated the menace of the White Whale. Subaru and Emilia return to Irlam village for a fateful reunion. This reunion was supposed to be the beginning of a peaceful life, but the couple is soon forced to come to terms with the cruel reality.

Rem has been eliminated from existence and completely forgotten. The Sin Archbishops have left a trail of destruction that Subaru is unable to reverse. Both Subaru and Emilia decide to find the truth behind this new turn of events. As they make their way to the Sanctuary to find answers, they have an unexpected meeting with the Witch of Greed, Echidna. She forces Subaru to confront the labyrinth of the past and the future. While Subaru is fighting to free himself from the clutches of the witch’s powers, the Sanctuary is suddenly being targeted by multiple unknown forces. Subaru and Emilia now have to race against time and their own personal demons to save the people trapped in the Sanctuary.

The Feel-Good Part

“Re-Zero” is back with another season and it is darker and more intense than ever. The best part of “Re-Zero” is that despite being an Isekai anime, it explores beyond the standard cliches. The story is always going above and beyond to make sure the series remains engaging and entertaining. This season delves a lot more into the characters and their backstories. Truthfully speaking, Subaru’s character could have easily become dull because he has the ‘cheat’ power to undo and reset every time he cannot overcome an obstacle. Yet, despite the ultimate power, Subaru’s character undergoes great personal development and experiences loss as well. This season we also understand the world a bit more and learn more about the existence of witches. Moreover, the OSTs are just complete bangers.

The Disappointing Factor

The one point of contention in “Re-Zero” is that it sometimes tends to over-do its references. The whole setting of the fictional world and its elements certainly need to be detailed and well described. Yet, for an anime which has really few episodes and such, too much deviation from the main plot can be really distracting. Long-running animes can afford this amount of detail but in an anime like “Re-Zero” which is fast-paced and to-the-point, this can become a weakness. Another thing that the creators can work on is the dialogues. The writing is a little stiff and feels like it lacks emotions therefore some of the interactions Subaru has with the other characters feel a little underwhelming. Yet, from a different angle, it can also be seen to be part of the charm because after all, they are in a game-like alternate universe.

In-Depth Analysis

“ReZero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season” lives up to the hype and is certainly worth watching. The art and animation are pretty consistent with the first season and even if viewers find a slight deterioration it was inevitable due to the Pandemic. The anime is really captivating in terms of storyline and plot progression. You cannot help but want to know what will happen next. The romance element of the show is also not bad. For most of the series, the creators have made a well-balanced production.

Star Power

The characters are all really charming and endearing. Although, the focus is mostly on Subaru and the anime is mostly shown from his point of view. This cannot be helped since he is the main character in this show. The story is lead-centric and hence a lot of the other characters are not given so much screen-time or attention. Regardless, you will still gain a lot of perspective about everyone through their interactions.

Overall Opinion

This sequel was certainly a hit because it maintained the initial quality of the anime. It did not disappoint the fans and we are happy
