Anime Digest

Noblesse: Awakening is a Japanese anime studio’s official adaptation of the Noblesse webtoon. The first two arcs of Volume 1 are covered in this 31-minute ONA. The tale has been drastically shortened, with minor alterations. Long ago, there was an old race of immortal supernatural creatures known as the “nobles.” They were worshipped as rulers and gods. Among the nobility was the “Noblesse,” a powerful man shrouded in mystery named Cadis Etrama di Raizel, or “Rai.” After waking up in South Korea after an 820-year sleep, Rai sets out to find his loyal and devoted servant, Frankenstein, who happens to be the present director of Ye Ran High School. Rai enrols as a student to have a better understanding of current culture and to better experience life in the modern world.

The Feel-Good Part

Noblesse, one of the best manhwa out there, inspired this adaption. If you want to watch this OVA, let me give you a head start. Because this is only a 30-minute adaptation and the tale will be fast-paced, don’t expect it to cover the entirety of the manhwa, but it will still be entertaining to watch.

The Disappointing Factor

The episode skips over all the minor nuances, such as Rai’s adjustment to the terminology and South Korean honorifics in his first encounter with Frankenstein’s school, and Shinwoo’s initial encounter is cut short.

In-Depth Analysis

The “nobles” is an ancient race of immortal supernatural creatures that lived long ago. They were regarded as gods and kings. The “Noblesse,” a strong man cloaked in mystery named Cadis Etrama di Raizel, or “Rai,” was among the nobles. Rai sets out to find his loyal and devoted servant, Frankenstein, who happens to be the current director of Ye Ran High School, after waking up in South Korea after an 820-year hibernation. Rai enrols as a student to better experience life in the modern world in order to learn more about modern culture.

Star Power

It was a difficult decision to condense a major portion of the manhwa into a single episode, but the results were fantastic because the primary plot is still intact, and any further plot additions (such as Rai learning Korean or playing at the PC arcade) might be considered spoiler to a few viewers. However, while compressing the plot is rather easy, condensing character development, particularly Rai’s kickass character development in the manhwa, was a problem.

Overall Opinion

Overall, it is best live adaptation there’s nothing more to say.
