Anime Digest

The show revolves around the life of the residents of an ordinary town of Ixia, which unbeknownst to its citizens is actually an escape shelter made to hide the humans away from the aliens that have taken over the earth. 99.9% of the humans who used to live on earth are wiped off of the face of the planet by the enemy race of aliens called the ‘Dracters’. The citizens of this town Ixia have no memories of the day of the destruction of their planet earth, their memories erased, they live a normal and peaceful life. The show opens with the selection of a new pilot called the ‘chosen ones’ in Ixia, who drive giant robots called the ‘Rogue’ and fight against the aliens.

The Feel-Good Part

The best part of the show, is undoubtedly, its main protagonist, Yamato who comes out quite differently than the others around him. He’s hilarious and quick-witted and a delight to watch on the screen. He draws the attention of the watcher in the battlefield with his unique handling of the Megaton. The show plays out emotional scenes quite well, taking the watcher with it, owing to its well-played out and finely developed characters with whom one can associate and relate to.

The Disappointing Factor

The CGI of the show is one of its several plus points, however combined with the hand-drawn characters of the humans, the CGI aliens look a bit out of place, making the show watchers feel quite detached from the show. The story is somewhat fast paced, and when it can be a plus point, it also leaves behind its characters not allowing them to completely have a well-rounded development and history.

In-Depth Analysis

The anime is an adaptation of Megaton Musashi, the Japanese mecha action video game but was premiered before the release of the game. The game was created by Level-5 who put out all the works, decent CGI and played out a chaotic story of a dystopian earth with a great array of characters. A few characters tend to end up suffering a bit too much from the breathless pace of the show.

Star Power

Yamato Ichidaiji voiced by Toshiki Masuda is the protagonist of the show. Masuda holds several credits to his name in the world of voicing in anime including but not restricted to High Card, Visual Prison and Tribe Nine. He gives the hero of the anime a certain distinguishable character. The female lead, Asuna Kanzaki is voiced by Tomoyo Kurosowa, a Japanese voiceover actress.

Overall Opinion

The show makes for a great watch with its sci-fi, fast paced plot and bold characters. The episodes showcase great music and background score. The anime features quite some tense and brutal fight scenes, with exceptional CGI, impressive as compared to some other anime’s out there. With above average voice acting, good music and certainly more than adequate animation, the show is definitely for you if you enjoy some good mecha on the fast paced side of things.
