Anime Review: Jashin-Chan Dropkick X

Drama Digest

Yurine Hanazono, a college student is enamoured by the idea of being a witch as it is fancies herself to be one as well. In her quest to be a real witch, yurine tries a spell that binds her to a devil Jashin Chan. As the spell effectively transports Jashin Chan into the human world through Yurine, the devil is bound to her master Yurine. However, Jashin is not complaint enough to be subjugated easily and goes out of her way to mess things up for Yurine. As easily the devil fiends to ruin Yurine’s life, Yurine definitely has good luck on her side as she manages to escape the effects of the devil’s schemes. A gory comedy about how two deranged girls come together and share the love of murder and torture. There are other charcters in the show such as the angel poporon and pekaro, Medusa and Minosu. All of them spice up the story especially Jasin and Yurine with their hilarious but bloody and gruesome confrontations.

The Feel-Good Part

We see Jashin a devil who bullies, insults and attacks anyone whom she deems lesser than her and on the other hand we have Yurine who puts Jashin in her place. Jashin is a devil that can regenerate and has a few friends like Medusa, Minosu are her friends. There is also a fallen angel in this series. She keeps her faith in heavens to resurrect her and her on screen times are funny to watch. Jashin and Yurine have great camaraderie for two people bound to each by accident. By camaraderie we certainly mean going at each other’s throat full throttle. It has slapstick comedy with loads of gore in it.

The Disappointing Factor

There are some animes that is directed towards a niche audience and Jashin Chan dropkick is one of them. There is gore and gore but presented in terms of comedic effect. Most of the gore happens when we see Jashin and Yurine collide. We can expect that to happen when two bloodthirsty people stat fighting. For the queasy stomached viewers this anime would not preferable to watch as it has a lot of blood and severed limb scenes. The main character Yurine is very creative in how she attacks and sometimes even resorts to using parts of her as food. Yurine although human is very detestable due to her torturous behaviour. She often beats up Jashin and outside of torturing Jashin she has no significant personality traits. It’s also unnecessary for any character development as this plain comedy with moments of shock value.

In Depth Analysis

Intended for a niche audience, if you are someone who enjoys slapstick comedy and does not mind gory scenes then Jashin chan dropkick is your watch. A lot of referential comedy and often breaks the 4th wall in order spice things up. It’s a series that is not demonising the devils or the witches. Rather simply focuses on how devious the devil is in order to return to her homeland. Jashin Chan uses her special attack known as the dropkick which is the namesake of the series. The character colour scheme is very muted and the designs are average at best. This could be because the studio uses the shock value and gory scenes as high-definition scenes. The OP of the series is quite messy although the ED is done very nicely. The ED has a very slice of the life anime vibes and can definitely make its way into your playlist. Most of Jashin and antics are rinse and repeat. Every time she tries to commit a crime like manslaughter, she gets the rug pulled from under her feet (Tail) by Yurine who rightfully punishes her.

Star Power

Nichika Ohmori, Aina Suzuki, Miyu Kubota are the voice actors for this anime.

Overall Opinion

Highly recommend this anime if you are someone who likes the mixture of supernatural comedy. It has gory scenes in it and the characters are comical. There is very fun narrator in the series. It has elements from Kobayashi dragon maid and bludgeoning angel anime. By all means skip the anime if visceral scenes are not up your alley because this anime does exactly that makes a lot of blood, gruesome scenes for shock value.
