“Ni Zehnshi Ge Tiancai” is a comedy fantasy donghua produced by Milli Pictures. It aired in China from the 23rd of April 2022 to the 9th of July 2022. The title translates to “You are a Genius.” The Donghua is a comedy fantasy anime about the story of a boy from the north setting out on a journey to the southern continent to cultivate magic. The story is set in a world divided into two parts, the eastern mainland and the western mainland. The story unfolds in the Western continent, in which the northern part is occupied by the Snow Mountain tribe, while the southern part lives under the rule of the prosperous Daqin Empire. Magic is the primary source of energy in this world. The southern side is known to be superior in the power of magic due to its constant wins against countless disasters and enemies. The story revolves around Bai Xiao, the son of the chief of the Snow Tribe. The narrative begins with Bai Xiao having to be separated from his cursed girlfriend, Qingyue, to unravel her curse. This causes him to set out on a journey with his girlfriend to the South to find a cure for her. Due to Qingyue’s amnesia, Bai Xiao loses her and sets out to look for his lost lover. In the process, he surprises the entire empire with his extraordinary audacity and astonishing talent. Will Bai Xiao be able to win back Qingyue’s love? Will his journey of magical cultivation give him the fruit of his hard work?
The Feel-Good Part
The exciting part of the Donghua is its humor. The Donghua is a fabulous form of slapstick that will not disappoint. The humor of this Donghua is what carries the storyline. The comic timing for each and everything in this Donghua is perfect.
The Disappointing Factor
The disappointing bit about the Donghua is its storyline. The Donghua is an exciting concept, but the way it has been incorporated into the story makes it a tad bit boring. The story could have been made much more interesting, but the constant focus on the comedy element caused the creators to not be able to wholly focus on the storyline.
In-Depth Analysis
The Donghua is based on the Chinese web novel of the same name by Guowang Bixia. This Donghua is one of the author’s most famous works. Although the donghua has been based on the past, it has several similarities with the recent time Donghua. This makes the Donghua exciting and relatable to the current audience.
Star Power
Unlike most anime or Donghua, this Donghua uses relatively new voices for its characters. Even then, the voice actors have done a fabulous job in portraying their roles in the most accurate ways.
Overall Opinion
If you are looking for something that is light-hearted and funny, then this is the Donghua for you. At no point would you feel that the comedy has dropped.
