Movie Digest

The movie’s plot revolves mainly around a mentally challenged Yoon Seok-Gu (Kim Dae-Myung), a man in his 30s with the brains of an eight-year-old child, operating a rice mill in a kind and friendly neighborhood in the Korean countryside. He leads a very serene life and loves playing “skipping stones” in his leisure time. One day he meets a runaway teenage girl, Eun-Ji (Jeon Chae-Eun). She lives in a shelter under Teacher Kim. She is mistaken for a thief by the villagers. She is saved from them by Seok-Gu. Both of them become friends. But one day, due to an unfortunate turn of events, Seok-Gu is charged with an attempt to rape Eun-Ji and is shunned by the villagers, especially by Teacher Kim (Song Yoon-Ah) from the shelter, who claims to be a witness. However, a catholic priest (Kim Eui-Sung) comes to Seok-Gu’s rescue. How do events unfold after that? Is Seok-Gu proved innocent, or does the story take an unexpected turn? Watch the movie to find out.

The Feel-Good Part

The storyline is one of its kind as it focuses on the challenges of a differently-abled individual who doesn’t even understand the allegations made against him. Still, society refuses to look at the other side of the coin and believes Teacher Kim’s misinterpretation. Seok-Gu and Eun-Ji’s innocent friendship is adorable. The fatherly love and support of the priest are highly appreciable.

The Disappointing Factor

Although the plot is very different, the movie doesn’t seem to have made it big. The ending seems to be not-so-satisfying. There could have been some compelling twists in the story to make it more appealing to the audience.

In-Depth Analysis

The movie shows a peaceful neighborhood where the residents lead a calm and simple life. The charges leveled by Miss Kim against Seok-Gu become one of the major themes, taking the story forward. His friends don’t hesitate to leave him too. The love and support showered upon Seok-Gu by Kim Eui-Sung are worthy of praise. The movie has made a substantial effort to portray how people blindly believe what they hear and jump to conclusions without hearing the other side of the story, a reality check.

Star Power

The brilliant acting of an “Adult-child” by Kim Dae-Myung is heart-touching. The way he doesn’t understand the blame shows differently-abled people’s societal struggles. Jeon Chae-Eun wins hearts after returning to screens ten years later, along with “Train to Busan” and “W:2 Worlds” fame Kim Eui-Sung.

Overall Opinion

This adorable, innocent drama giving a reality check to its viewers is undoubtedly worth a watch.
