Movie Digest

An old funeral director, Sung Gil, lives with his unwell son, Ji Hyuk. His son had an accident and is paralyzed from the waist down. He is now confined to a wheelchair and has lost all hopes of life. Sung Gil’s business is drooping and is struggling to make ends meet, so he joins the corporate funeral management company Happy Endings.

Ko Eun-Suk with her little daughter No-eul moves next door and she takes up the job of Ji Hyuk’s caregiver. Ko Eun-Suk is a very lively person and staying with her brings hope and happiness to Ji Hyuk’s life.

The Feel-Good Part

Ko Eun-Suk is a heartwarming character. Her always hopeful and cheerful nature just brings life to the movie. And the way she hides all her sorrow show that she is an excellent actress.

The Disappointing Factor

The only fault in the movie was that it just gets a bit dramatic toward the end. But it was unavoidable, and the movie is so good that it doesn’t count as a drawback.

In-Depth Analysis

Sung Gil’s funeral business has almost collapsed as many companies have entered the market, providing more convenient and modern services. He was barely holding up but now his rent is long overdue, so he signs up a contract with a company named Happy Ending. Meanwhile, his son who is confined to a wheelchair because of an accident has given up on life and his previous caretakers left the job because he keeps attempting suicide.

The ever-smiling, run-away Ko Eun-Suk with her little daughter No-eul moves next door and she takes up the job of Ji Hyuk’s caretaker. She brings light to their house and always finds joy in the smallest of things. She gives Ji Hyuk hope for a better life.

Suddenly the local noodle shop owner, who provided free noodles to the homeless, passes away. As he had no family and nobody to claim the body, the local authorities send the body to Happy ending, and they tell Sung Gil to get over it without a fuss. But the homeless in the noodle shop want to have a proper funeral for him even though they don’t have the money. Sung Gil also wants the same as he thinks there should be dignity in death but this capitalist world is very cruel.

Star Power

The actors delivered a strong performance. With four main roles, the movie doesn’t feel like a hassle and has an excellent cast who carried the movie so well.

Overall Opinion

it is an outstanding movie with a unique storyline, excellent star cast, and inspiring plot. the movie progresses very naturally and it is worth giving a try.
