Drama Digest

The story is about a law assistant, Kang Tae Soo, who wishes to be a lawyer at his firm and has to keep a failing zoo afloat for three  months in order to achieve this dream while the equity firm looks for a buyer. He soon realizes the challenges of this assignment as the zoo has sold off most of its animals. Desperately, Tae Soo enlists the help of the remaining staff to dress up as animals which might seem convincing when viewed from a distance. However, this is easier said than done. Will Tae Soo succeed? Watch the movie to find out!

The Feel-Good Part

The movie is the definition of a silly, sweet, goofy and light movie. It will leave you warm and fuzzy. There is light social commentary about the economic disparity in our society. The storyline is certainly unique and you will certainly laugh out loud at many points, especially when Kang, dressed as a polar bear, is caught drinking Coca Cola.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie is a bit too long and, while funny, can seem slightly childish. While they lightly touched social issues, they did not truly address them. I believe they could have delved deeper in these issues. The build up is slow and the ending slightly bland and predictable.

In-Depth Analysis

The story, as mentioned earlier, is unique. An aspiring lawyer trying to save a failing zoo by asking the staff to dress up as animals is not a premise which is easy to predict. It presents economic disparity in a light manner. The characters face slight disagreements, but it is never contentious. It also sends a subtle message, questioning the ethics of keeping animals in cages. The characters work well with each other and are harmonious.

Star Power

The series is given life by the talents of actors Ahn Jae-Hong, Kang So-Ra and Park Yeong-gyu.

Overall Opinion

Secret Zoo is a heartwarming, goofy and funny movie which will make you laugh and giggle with its gags.
