Movie Digest

The story starts with a man named Chae-Geun, played by Ahn Sung Ki, a surrogate driver in his late 60s with manic depression who lives alone in Seoul. He frequently speaks to his overseas son, who is studying in the United States, and assures him that he will keep his promises to him. He also helps out by acting as a temporary fiancé to a single woman named Jin-hee, played by Yoo Yoo Sun, a lady in her late 40s who works as a waitress at a restaurant he frequently visits. As the story proceeds, we learn about her father, who was a victim of the Wangle Uprising in 1980. He shows him a gun he stashed away 39 years ago, and now he asks Chae-geum to help him take revenge upon those who were responsible for the May 18 incident. He seeks revenge on Park Geun, who forced violence on civilians during the movement but is now living without regret and responsibility.

The Feel-Good Part

The thrilling plot is the movie’s main USP. As the story progresses, the well-crafted plot and characters make the film more intriguing and, as a result, make the movie quite exciting to watch and keep the viewer glued to the screen for the longest time. Ahn Sung Ki is an excellent lead, and the subject matter is both significant and enticing.

The Disappointing Part

The screen presentation could have been better. The script and direction were a bit uneven and choppy. It is also a dark thriller, so light-hearted teenagers under the age of thirteen may find it difficult to digest. Viewers who are not fans of dark-themed thrillers may find this unsettling. When the story progresses, there are many subplots, which makes the viewers a little bit confused. As a viewer, I found the pacing to be abrupt, and each scene shown was insignificant to the plot. I wish it would have been better.

In-Depth Analysis

The movie is primarily a thriller about vengeance and the confession of the Gwangju massacre. The soldier who had given the go-ahead to kill was the main character. The revelation was the highlight of the last five minutes.

Star Power

The actors are the star power of the show. Ahn Sung Ki as Chae-Geun was perfect for his role. His efforts were apparent, and he did a fantastic job portraying his part. Yoo Yoo Sun as Jin-hee proved her versatility in acting as well. She looked pretty young and beautiful as a lady in her late 40s. The other characters were meticulous and responsible in how they performed their parts, which helped them improve the show in different ways.

Overall Opinion

The movie is a power-packed thriller with some emotional scenes and is pretty exciting to watch. The thriller-loving fans will enjoy it thoroughly, so it is a good choice.
