Movie Digest

While a vicious virus wreaks havoc on a Korean city, Joon-woo seeks refuge within his apartment. He encounters another survivor just as he begins to lose hope.

The Feel Good Part

“Alive!” follows “Train To Busan.” A current zombie horror movie that not only features zombies and destruction but also features some terrifying scenes, particularly the fridge scene. The film does not spend any time in getting to the fight, resulting in nonstop action. One of the best aspects of the picture are the action sequences, which are superbly choreographed and have a lingering sense of vulnerability that adds to their enjoyment.

The Disappointing Factor

This film may not be as good as TTB, as the first and second acts lack speech. There were some questions left unanswered, such as how the virus began and what it is exactly, as knowing that would be useless. Instead, the focus should be on HOW to survive it. Another major flaw with this film is that it appears to be too easy.. for example, we see one of the central protagonists go without food for a month and still function normally..? This is where the film failed. Some elements were just neglected or not thoroughly considered.

In-Depth Analysis

People on Seoul’s streets suddenly become very violent and cannibalistic, assaulting passers-by and acting like zombies. All of this is witnessed by a young man alone and in his parents’ 4th floor flat. The apartment is completely devoid of groceries. He makes the mistake of opening the door, and a neighbour barges in. He becomes afflicted but is eventually expelled. The infection is spreading across the country, according to television. The phone and internet eventually quit working, and the water runs out. He sees a gorgeous girl in the flat across from his when all hope is lost.

Star Power

The sole leading actors are Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye, who both give outstanding performances. While the zombie tragedy isn’t detailed enough, it’s convincing because it puts you in the character’s shoes: you, too, know nothing except that there are a lot of zombies out there and the only way to sustain is to kill them.

Overall Opinion

This one is for people who ‘might’ crave a horror film sans blood and guts splattering everywhere. You should go into this expecting a limited zombie horror film because it spends a lot of time within our characters’ apartments and how they deal with the scenario outside. The shocks and scares are fantastic; they went above and beyond my expectations, which was fantastic.
